Making an image appear if no Flash installed?

I need to make a static image appear instead of a Flash movie if the user dosen't have flash installed on their machine. I don't want the "please go here and install flash" comming up - needs to be seemless. I have some code to do it but its from years ago, so I'd like some nice clean up-to-date code. I don't think it covers making an image appear if Flash isn't available, but adding it in should be trivial. Hint: Look for sites discussing online advertising.
