Im not sure were to post this but I feel that if I post it in the metal section I will get a better response but here goes,ok you see britan has rock and metal radio stations so I want to know does anyone feel that dublin and Ireland need a metal radio station due to all of the rap and dance stations so if I can get enough response's I will appeal for a metal radio station in dublin. So who thinks we should have a metal/rock radio station?

Yeah, that would be great. But to be hnoest I don't think there are enough people out there to make it comerically viable. Even the Metal Show is gone from 2FM.

Well alot of college students listen to metal/rock and nearly all skaters listen to metal so hopefully I can get the station up and going.Post your support because Im going to print the page out when I get enough responses,so get posting!

You have my support. I would defnietly spend most of my time listening to a metal station if it was availible.

I support you. There is none at the moment and thats kind of stupid. Putting the music in a corner pretending it doesnt exsist. How do you plan to get one?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭Dathai

Ok cool Im going to get petition going around soon and I will e-mail BCI when I get enough names,so when I get the petition who thinks they can get at least 50 names on it?

I support it. There are plenty of metal fans in Ireland who have nothing to listen to. As you can see on Music3 on TV3, half or more of the viewers on there listen to metal judging by texts and the types of videos they have on.

Agreed, everytime I turn that on it's playing something like SOAD Toxcity or Metallica's St. Anger.

I support it, I have a feeling if it gets going it'll be a Dublin only station. Need to try and get it nationwide, I would say that though since im not in Dublin.

you would DEFINATLEY have my support! all anyone has at the moment is ray mcgowan on Phantom but now thats gone too.

are u planning to set up a legimate station or just a pirate? cause a legimate station costs a lot of money.

bear in mind that many of those shtty dance stations were pirates

Ya got my support buddy, but I'm not sure it'll do you any good. You're in the boy/girlband capital of the world. Trying to get a metal station up and running here would take an act of satan (as opposed to go). But it would be cool if you succeed - if I hear one more boyband, I'll fcukin' kill myself.

If i make the petition I will e-mail it to anyone who thinks they can get signatures so is there anyone who wants one?

If I get up and going then I will not play Rap metal(because it is not worthy) and I will not play punk rock(because if I need to know the weather in manchester I check out the weather channel)

But if I dont get it up (because I may not be able to get the money) I will submit the idea to BCI or what we could do is get a bucket with help the Iraqis...build a metal station and leave it in charity shops,HMVs and local shops and that way we might get a bit of money to start it up.

Brilliant. Start a fund raiser. You have my assistance any time.

What would you play? Death would be sweet. If it is Nu-metal - punk rap it would be a waste. Thrash, Speed, Death, Doom etc.

    Good luck.

    About this petition?

"The BCI has today (Friday July 4th) placed an advertisement in the national press seeking expressions of interest in the provision of sound broadcasting services for Dublin City and County. The advertisement follows the Commission’s announcement earlier this week of the availability of four further frequencies for the Dublin area. One frequency will provide coverage for Dublin City and County, one will provide coverage for Dublin City and part County, while a further two frequencies will provide city-wide coverage for the Dublin area.

The expressions of interest phase signals the beginning of the process of providing new licences for Dublin. “The expressions of interest phase is an important part of the licensing process in that it gives the Commission an indication of the levels of interest there are in providing further services”, said Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BCI. “The Commission is open to suggestions on the nature of the services to be provided. It will however, take into account the type of service to be provided and is asking interested parties to set out the rationale for the service they propose to provide, together with a statement of how such a service will add to the diversity of services already in existence throughout Dublin city and county”

The closing date for the receipt of expressions of interest is 5p.m. on Friday September 12th, after which time the Commission will consider all submissions received. It is anticipated that a report on all expressions of interest received will be presented to the Board of the BCI prior to the completion of their term of office in October of this year."

I just got this from the BCI website does anyone uderstand it I havent got a clue what they're talking about.

    shame
would have been great ... but in all honesty likeliness is slim - considering phantom shut down - and afaik some country-music station got licence over them
