http is shagged, this means http downloads too, you must use proxy, proxy.netsource.ie port 80

  • Registered Users Posts: 491 ✭✭flav0rflav

Hmmm, behaving erratically at the moment.

As regards the proxy, isn't it intercepting web traffic anyway?

Netsource, IOL and UTV all suffering from problems with d/l speeds at the same time. Coincidence?

this could be a global thing... as my isp i screwing the pooch aswell.

my download graph looks like the one shown above (i just copied it here from other post) bandwidth.jpg

i average between 2 and 10k and my pings are a-wall. is this something to do with all the internet routers being rebooted and all the connections having to be reformed? (i;m not sure when this happened or if it would affect this at all)

Ive been getting quite similar in terms of the pics as posted above...one minutes its constantly in full throttle then it drastically slows down...

Has anyone been in contact with their respective provider and if so, what have you been told?

Im with IOL by the way...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,862 ✭✭✭flamegrill

Anyone using broadband and needs a decent proxy give me a PM or an email (paul at blacknightsolutions dot ie) and for a smallish monthly fee I'll grant ya access to it.

It requires a static IP as its restricted using access lists and a firewall.

Paul (using it for about a week now, very good :))

flamegrill, I'm very very jealous of those pings :(

got this reply after I sent in a complaint:
Unfortunately we're noticing that contention is kicking in in a few of
our exchanges - but it's only at certain times - customers seem to
notice it most in the evenings when the homeusers log on

things can only get worse as more people join...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 743 ✭✭✭UbahOne

They gave no other answer as to what they are going to do about it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,502 ✭✭✭MrPinK

If it is contention, then there's not much that any of the other ISP's can do. Someone said today that eircom only have 2Mb lines at the exchanges. If this is true, then eircom need to sort this out quickly. The 50:1 contention ratio was found to work in other countries based on a 10Mb line at the exchange.

Lovely...that makes it easier for me to get out of this bloody service then if im getting below par modem speeds or somtimes 33.6kbps.

This is the third night after 7pm in a row Netsources core network is heavly contended. Dont care about evening time users or anything like that. Saw this crap before from this company and it seems to be happening again. Evenings get bad, then daytime gets bad , complaints etc.

It was fine from last wednesday evening until last nite for me, now I know my exchange only has a handfull of users, so there is no its near maxed out yet. So it must be the backhaul they have for the soho product off eircoms network. Time for another increase in bandwidth I think netsource.

yeah, this is starting all again. Its just one big circle with netsource. I wish they'd invest in some proper bandwidth and be proactive instead of reactive in relation to bandwidth. At least eircom have a reliable network.

Pings are $hite again tonight, and generally the quality of the service has been less than great for the last week. Will this weekend be the first all laggy weekend?

  • Registered Users Posts: 227 ✭✭Mthor5

on netsource soho, and the pings are bad after 6pm(300+,compared to 60- during the day)for the last 3 days, even browsing webpages is brutall as it takes nearly a minute to load a page!on me holliers till next week so heres hopin they sort out something from then:(

At the risk of getting shot....

The problem is now that contention is kicking in at the exchanges - there is no issue on the backhaul (incidentally - traffic usage went down slightly this week).

There is a 48:1 contention ratio on the exchanges - I am not sure, but I think that the way Eircom do it is to provision 512k out of the exchange for the first RADSL customer (regardless of ISP - this contention is not ISP based), and that path is not increased until customer 49 is enabled.

The fact that its working fine for customers in some areas and not others, only serves to support the theory that the contention is now exchange based.

    Thomas
