My cdr and dvd are acting the boll*x..
Cdr used to write 48x in about 4mins, nbows its gone up to bout 13 minutes and when i try and open cds or install something it always crashes and its really slow same with my dvdrom, its very annoyin..
I thought the problem was that they were on the same IDE channel but i cahnged them and it didnt resolve the problem...

In the CDR case this is copyin from other drive [dvdrom and dvd-r]
and the hard drive so im baffled..
can any1 shed any light on the situation?

    any help appreciated..

Sounds like a software problem to me. Possibly a software conflict.

did you install any new software that may be causing the problem??

Don't have an other ideas than that sorry.

in the properties in device manager, ensure they have different DMA numbers and see...also stick theim into different ide ribbons.

one on the secondary (the cdrw) and the dvd on the primary with the hard drive

Go into device manager and make sure that the IDE controllers are set to DMA mode if available ... they may have been reset to a slower mode

ya ive seen that before ..
after a year or so bandwidth on channels drops a loads..

and drive burning speed is alot lower.

    (1) defrag hard drive!
    (2) put cd-rw and dvd on seperate IDE channels
    (3) disable SMART in bios (slows down access times)
    (4) makes sure that DMA and not PIO is been detected in bios
if it is, set it manually to dma
    (5) check ur hard drives are working at dma 4/5, speed up transfer speeds

got a pm from ya will check!
