    Ok I have a problem
I know it's something to do with font mapping on word/my pc

    well the story is this

If I open a word file on my pc ... the result is dodgy.bmp
    (font is Times 12)

but if I open the same file on a different PC .. the result is ok.bmp

I've re-installed the font, Word, and even the OS but still it comes out the same

anyone any ideas .. I have a feeling it's the Registry settings, but I dunno where to look

also i have a partition, which uses the same word program and that works fine .. again I believe it's teh registry setting

    anyone any ideas?

A few questions if I may

Operating system and version of Word?

Does to corruption occur only in 12pt, or also in other sizes.

If you open a new Word document, does the font still corrupt.

Does the font corrupt in other Office programs such as Excel.

Finally, might be worth moving this to MS Apps/OS

    cheers,

    Pat

    2000 both os and word

Only occurs in that font in word .. if I open in open office it is ok

the font is in a textbox, so if i click the textbox and change the font to somtimes .. as in re-click it .. it is fine

    no other font corruptness

    I use a program to convert PDF->RTF
and it used to work on my machine then one day (and I mean one day) the font was in the wrong places and the text box was wrong size etc .. only for that specfic font

I e-mailed the company .. and asked for help they were as much use as George Bush .. I got along by creating the file on a different machine(well a different partition on my machine), and viewing it on my machine .. but now I can't even do that

    I have re-installed everything

How about Excel, or are you using Word as part of a Works Suite

the font is in a textbox, so if i click the textbox and change the font to somtimes .. as in re-click it .. it is fine

Sorry, Do you mean if you change the font to something else its fine, or if you go into the text box and come back out it's fine. Also if you change to a different point size in Times, does it look okay

Does the problem only occur with files that originated in this program.

The easiest way out of this would be to save your working data, reformat your drive and start with a clean install of Windows. I you want to have a go at clearing the registry file that controls Word Data and fonts then the key you need to delete is at

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data

although you'd need to reinstall Word afterwards.

The last thing I would ask is have you changed anything on your PC lately, new software, hardware, display properties.

deleting that registry file worked fine thanks
    for that problem

It only happened when I used that program ..

what I meant was .. each piece of text was in a frame .. if I clicked on teh frame and go to properties and changed the font (to the same font) it worked

now I just have one more problem .. my frames are incorrect size

anyone know where teh registry setting for that is

Oh by the way the file is a RTF not a doc ..

Ok I have pictures of teh dodgy frame

In teh correct file the word patient has a frame size of :

    Width : Exactly 2.17cm
Height : At Least 0.42 cm

    in the dodgy one :
    Width : Exactly 1.09cm
    Height : At Least 0.31cm

so the Width is nearly 1/2 the size less than it should be

so does anyone know how I can change this :
Please not that after Erasing teh Registry setting still nothing happened

Do you have a template associated with these imports. If so can you get a copy from another area and overwrite.

    No template

Oh and it only happens with one font: courier

when I uninstalled it(font) and ran teh program .. it worked ok .. but it subsituted the font as something else

but teh words were correct and in right place

but when I re-installed the font, teh exact same thing happened

I'd try deleting and reinstalling the Courier font first. If no change delete or replace you normal.dot (Word will regenerate this automatically. I also remember there being an issue with frames/RTF's in Word 2000, which was fixed by SP2. However I'd be very doubtful if that's part of your problem.
