I see some people are still on iol, Cloud put alot of work into this and it will work out better for us, so cmon and give it a go!

BTW who thinks the only ops should b cloud , daneel and giskard?

I have refrained from commenting on this round of "lets move from irc.iol.ie to irc.quake.ie" , that is until now..

People will move if they want to. Leave it at that.

Personally, i am a frequent user of 4 or 5 irc servers and use each one for different things / different games. I usually have 2 mirc open at once.. Maybe i should investigate one which handles mutli server in one client.. but i havent so far..

I dont see my habits changing much.

I get the same empty feeling when in irc.quake.ie that I got on previous attempts to do this. I do not see the reason to move from IOL. It has been the home of Irish Quake IRC for nearly 3 years now and barrin a few hitches has served us well. Cloud I am not trying to rain on your parade, fair play to ya for doing it but SHive has spent alot of time sorting out #Quake on IOL and it does the job very well.

As for the ops sitiuation, you need at least one human op on at anytime. That means at least 4 or 5 human ops.

Sorry lads for the moment I'm sticking to IOL irc, I will probally have the irc.quake.ie open as well it just won't be on top.

I'm on IOL as well, the fact is some other non quake people I know well use that, and me cousin, and a few others.

irc.iol.ie is a chat server, irc.quake.ie is a games chat server..

irc.iol.ie is an irish, isolated "general chat server"

and irc.quake.ie is a link to games irc network

Different servers - different purposes...

and koopa - i think he was talking about community, something which doesnt change as the winds... and something which is owned by ign/tinet/iol/indigo it has its own life.

some things are bigger than games or isp's...

respect them, community is a special thing.

Space : Fair enough, point taken. No I couldn't give a ****e about ops, its just handy to be able to sort muppets out when they appear on #Quake.

I don't think IOL IRC is going to disappear, I just think the Quake section should move to IRC.Quake.ie / QuakeNet, and those who like chatting to their friends or cousins or wifes-to-be or just some guys hanging out in #morgue should continue to be happy on IOL.

IOL is primarily a chat server for Irish people, and will probably always be around, hopefully so because we're all grateful to IOL for providing this service to us when we Quakers had nowhere to meet, even if it was troublesome at times to get ops sorted etc. etc. (good man Shivs).

However, like the pound and the euro, times have changed for Irish Quake players and before I ever mentioned moving, you could have found a lot of them sitting on QuakeNet by doing a /who *.ie as they were already taking part in UK/European leagues.
I felt getting an Irish IRC server connected to QuakeNet was a good idea, and by the response over the weekend, so did a lot of other people, who are still on IRC.Quake.ie this morning.

And now to the question of ops. I've told everyone straight up that we need to cut back on the number of old ops, this is a compromise between those like SeP and Chaos etc. who think we shouldn't bother with ops, and those like Shinji and Gandalf who want a lot of ops. I think 5 is a good number, and hope we can pick two sets of 5 fair-minded ops for #quake.ie and #quake2.ie.

We can either have a (rigged <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/tongue.gif&quot; WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":P">) voting system or just put forward some names here on the board, suggestions welcome!

gand you are completely missing the point, #quake couldve been anywhere.. i just think that #quake on clouds server (yes, it is an irish server) would suit us better than #quake on iol..
for eg, i had a little brush with some spa called 'letterman' a while back...(basically he started calling me and another bloke *******s , cos we were ignoring him or something..so we retaliated)

I've been hanging out on the new server and I'll say this. There is no way we would have as many visitors from other nations if we were on iol.

The ops are fine, I dont mind having all of the old ops being ops here, but I stay unopped until a need arises, since the bots will kick flooders.

This move is important from my perspective as I can easily arrange WDT (yes it is happening) matters and you never know what else. It's also better that we are connected to our "brethren" on the continent.

My opinion is that we should all TAKE THE PAIN and move. Most already have to be honest. This isnt an anti IOL thing its just that I want to be able to chat to Von Swine and Timber at the same time.
