sit = StuffIt format. It's a MAC compression. ZIP is normally PC

    yeeee

anyway, there is a winversion on that site
must grab that cos i got 1/2 files off it earlier! owww errrrr!!!!!
    i luv winzip tooo

gz = GnuZip (?) It's a unix compression. As far as I remember the latest winzip should handle this, as also possibly Stuffit files. Try it first.

Winzip 6 and 7 can unzip gz files

goto www.aladdinsys.com to get Stuffitexpander for windoze. It expands .sit, .cpt, .Lha, .zip, .arc, .gz, .tar and .Z archives and decodes .hqx, .bin, .pf, BASE64 and .uu files... i.e.everyfu(kinthing. Most compression algorithms and encodings are platform agnostic so it doesn't matter which type u use so long as the destination OS can use the file.

oh yeah... in what way is .sit "just not as good as zip" ???

    use RAR archiver..
unRAR source is freely availiable, so any platform that has a C compiler can extract rar files..

its not as good cos it only has 50% the compression winzip has
was lookin for a phile, was a 900k zip, 1.5 meg .sit - exact same file like smile.gif
