is there anyway i can lock kazaa so it cant be accessed while i'm downloading 100% legal and completely wholesome content. i'm getting ripwave the day after tomorrow, wednesday, and wanna just leave it going all day. is there a desktop lock or some thing that would let it run? or even something similar to the messenger plus lock?

can you be more specific about 'locked' ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭BArra

u mean so u dont upload as u download?

just remove anything u download from ur shared folder located in ur KaZaA folder and ull just be downloading,

ud get better content for ur *cough* backups with Bit-Torrent, ie, the latest and best stuff, but that relies on ur upload

if you run WinXP, just login with your "Kazaa account" and start kazaa, then do "Switch users", and login your normal account. Then you're kazaa acount runs in background and can';t be accessed til someone switches back tothe kazaa acount and enters the required password. If you need any help doing this pm me

you can lock it with a firewall

Um... did any of you other than mutant_fruit actually read the original question?

I was going to say that there's no way to be certain to stop your mum from seeing that you're downloading porn. If she's smart enough to use the PC while you're away, notice the kazaa icon in the taskbar and click on it to see what it is, there's not much else you can do to stop it. You can make it pretty damn hard to discover by accident...

Mutant_Fruit's idea is pretty ingenious though, but only if you own or are willing to buy WinXP.

Well if she's not going to be clicking on random things just to see what they are, there's no problem with setting Kazaa to minimise to the system tray. I think it works that way by default, but I'm not sure coz I use DC.

Bloody amatures the lot of you

    HideWin - 12.4K

use definable hotkey to hide and unhide any application window.
should work for kaaza - if only by hiding the active window and not the tray icon (though the tray icon will appear it will not allow the maximising of the application)

    tribble

now if hideWIN32 had a nice password on it, it'd be perfect. As it is, i'd advise using a ctrl+alt+shift+a wierd button (e.g. the * in num pad) to hide it. Its less likkely to be accidently guessed the more buttons are in it...

ha ha she'd actually be like that, except it'd be hmm let me get a of cup tea while i figure this out. anyway the treat here is a big brother threat, not a mother threat, so winhide isnt the best. ctrl alt del just gets rid of it. its not so much that i'm dl porn, its just i dont want him to f'uck up my soon to be huge download lists while i'm at school. i think i'll set up a kazaa account

If you're on XP (or 2000, or NT4 for that matter) then hit Ctrl+Alt+Del. And click the 'Lock Computer' button.

Then click Ctrl+Alt+Del again and enter your password.

Won't be of any help if your brother comes in and powers it off mind you, but then nothing will!

where abouts do you hit ctrl alt del? i did it in my desktop and just program manager, no lock button to be found

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,002 ✭✭✭fatguy

When you press ctrl-alt-del the options you get should be: lock workstation, task manager, logoff, shutdown, change password and cancel.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,416 ✭✭✭griffdaddy

no i just get task manager

    Just hit WinKey+L

WinKey is the one between ctrl and alt btw

The reason you get two different things when you press the [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] combination is becuase griffdaddy has the "Use Welcome Screen" box checked in "Control Panel / Users / Change the way users log on or off" control panel applet and Zaltais has it unchecked. There ya are now...

hehehe. I've found that mapping a third mouse button to the clear desktop function is even faster than win+d :)
