So is Shadow Hearts worth buying. The thing is that I have got 30 games that need to be beaten and have to limit my games buying to games that are absolutely essential. So is this a game that I can't afford to miss out on?

I think so. It's got a really great story, a battle system that keeps you interested throughout, and believable flawed characters. More than any other RPG on the PS2, it captured my imagination and along with Legaia 2 - one of the best RPG's I've played since the 32bit days.
