browsing the british labour partys website,i came across in their shop dvds of 24 and the west wing .

now i know its one thing for political parties to raise cash by selling stuff like easter 1916 t-shirts(sf) or che guevara t-shirts,but that tends to be directly related to the parties heritage or cause,

surely this commercialism as exhibited by my example is further proof that the blairs labour party is moving ever closer to a position similar to the us democratic party?i mean at the tories shop they sell the same thing but you'd expect that would'nt you?i suppose really my point is that labour under blair has totally sold out and that this thread is me subconsciuosly having a go at them for doing so and that i have an unhealthy fascination for british politics.

    oh well cest la vie.

Its not confined to britain but lets talk about the British situation for this topic.
British politics is inclined toward the US model mainly due to is polar-nature as created from its "First past the poll" system of electing MPs as oppossed to Proportional Representation as is used in all other EU countries(as far as i'm aware).
Both the conservatives and labour are highly similar centre parties. The only difference is that one uses "Left Spin" and the other uses "Right-SPin"... There policies are highly similar and for domestic politics they are identical. But in Foreign affairs you will see alot of differences. The Conservatives would have totally blocked the EU Convention from working if they were in power. And the war on Terror would possibly have a much larger and unquestionable support of Britian under the Toryies(can u imagine it??)

Anyway. Whether a political party sells-out or not shouldn't be the point. Its whether their policies suffer as a result. If they do. Then there is a problem... TO be honest it rather have a political party funded by advertisments instead of 'political donations. Just make sure the company advertising doesn't put there logo on a pin badge for the politicians or that the ads themself don't influence policy...

note: i'm suprised with my view

Obviously it's a Catholic conspiracy  (Catholics hold a disproportionate number of party leadersships in the UK and "President Bartlet" is also a Catholic).

Oh, and let me see, both the Labour Party and "The West Wing" are about politics.

You'll find that the Labour Shop is identical (just about) to the Conservatives Shop and the LibDems Bookshop , because they are all provided/powered by Politicos Bookshop (Politicos .

They get a cut of the revenue for each product sold.

I've heard a conspiracy theory that the real people in power (pick your favorite target here) have purposely created a situation where the average person is so apathetic so as to not participate in the democratic process.
That then leaves them to shape it how they would without interference.

    K back on topic.
