A bit off topic but alot of people here seem to know about internet pricing plans in other countries ...

I'm currently working in the uk and stay in hotels during the week all the time. I'd like to have internet access and not pay the per minute chage that the hotel is eager to charge for local calls at night (~33c per min). The solution would seem to be either phonecards (but these seem to be eager to make you sign in using pins etc which make it difficult for automatic dialling), or freephone ISPs.
I had a look around on the net, and there seem to be a number of uk freefone isps. Obviously I'm going to end up paying some cash for this, which I guess I'll have to be happy with. Does anyone have any recommendations on ones to try, or have experience with any of them in particular? Most seem to want £15 per month type thing, but they want you to be on a bt calling plan or something. I'm not sure if that will work from a hotel...

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated, I'm sure other people must have been in a similar situation...

I would recommend asking on http://www.the-scream.co.uk/

You will get a better answer to your question there.

Perhaps the following could work for you, it's free but only 80 hours a month between 1 am and 8 am, so very night time: http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t8753.html?

Edit: Actually I think that's limited to one phone line as well, hmm, someone elsewhere on the forums recommended using AOL or ATT Global (both offer 0800 freephone numbers apparently). The latter is at http://www.attglobal.net/ but they're expensive.

I had looked at AOL, but it doesn't allow IRC, telnet access etc. I couldn't get the accessing regular internet sites bit working either, so there really wasn't much in it hehe. I'll have a look at the-Scream (and ATT) though, thanks.

I'll move this to Nets/Comms, leaving a redirect here so it'll get traffic from both boards.
