Folks can anyone give me some advice.
I've got a Daewoo DWX28W5GB widescreen 28'' Tv which I bought about 16 months ago. I've been happy with it up until the last couple of days when the four corners have started to blur making the colours "bleed" into each other and text unreadable (e.g. the sky news logo is a blur of blue and red as is the mtv song titles.)
The picture in the centre of the screen is perfect. I've tried retuning the channels and readjusting colour/sharpness levels but to no avail.
    Anyone got any suggestions??

    :confused::confused:

any speakers or anything else magnetic around the TV? Can you move the TV to another part of the room. I doubt that's it but seing as nobody else has replied I figured I'd throw in my tupenny bit!
Otherwise your tube might not be firing properly which would be a very bad thing. Have you called Daewoo?

Interesting you should mention the speakers. I had a couple of stereo speakers near to the tv (which I had there for months without causing any picture problems). I've since moved these speakers and it has'nt made any difference to the picture. Is it possible it has caused long term damage to the tube if it was the speakers??

If the speakers aren't magnetically shielded, they can cause permanent damage to the picture tube all right. I would have thought that this would be unlikely however if you couldn't see anything while they were there, I may be wrong. With my speakers if positioned near the TV at a certain angle they cause a bright green field next to them. I make sure to position them so that this green field can't be seen, and have been OK so far...

It's strange that it's affecting all four corners yet the centre is OK. I would say it is a tube problem rather than it being caused by speakers. Generally if it is caused by speakers it only affects th part of the screen where the speakers are closest to, but try moving speakers/anything magnetic & leave it for a while & see if it makes any difference.

thanks a million for the suggestions lads, I'll give them a whirl and hopefully it's not a permanent tube problem.

as the guys previously said it's the big magnet of the drivers which caused the electron beam in the TV tube to bend and to create wrong colors.
Usually to get the TV to settle back just unplug the TV from the outlet and let it "rest" for a few hours - this usually helps.

the speakers are now well away from the tv. but it's starting to blur again. Any more suggestions??

About three years ago I had a TV giving me the same problems, and after speaking to my local TV dealer. He suggested that I get a Speaker and remove the clip off cover, and then while the TV is on - plug in the speaker and hold it a few "inchs" from the TV screen, then slowly move the speaker around and see if any of the colour distortions move or follow your speaker!if this starts happening then slowly move your speaker up/down towards each corner of your TV picture until the distortion has been dragged right in to the picture corner if you are following this so far then move your speaker slowly up above/below the given TV picture corner - and back off - away from the TV. Hopefully, all being well you will have removed one distortion?.. if so repeat for other distortions.

In my case I remember a big improvement, but in the end I was not satisfied and the TV dealer then came out with a large round TV Demagnitieser looks like a large Metal Doughnut which he placed on the TV screen and moved around in circular movements. In 2 minutes the TV was demagnitised and my picture was perfect!, he then left without charging me a penny!, but then I do live in a small community with only one TV dealer.

No trouble since, and I did not need a new tube.

Hope this is of some help.

    Good luck.

If its under gaurantee bring it back to the shop.if not bring it to a tv repair technician,,ask him to degauss it and there is usually controls for rgb sharpness for r g blue where the individual outputs of each color gun can be adjusted for clarity ,,warmth,,sharpness ,, similar to the standard controls of a computer monitor ...at least on the older sets ,,read your manual modern sets have a service mode for techs to acess the :bios: or service mode of the set ...sounds like the guns or out of sync ,,,i think most tv gaurantees now are actually 2 years 24 months long.check your gaurantee.i have friends in repair business so i pick up alot of tips.info. tubes usually last for at least 10 years.doesnt sound like a serious prob ,,even if out of gaurantee they,ll probly fix it for nominal fee say 40euro. settings of guns sometimes drifts out of sync,,needs to be adjusted.after 10 years sharpness on tube starts to degrade depending on brand ,maKE.IF U SEARCH MODEL no on google u,d prbly find service info or tips.there are specialist tv repair sites.

    gamer,

Of course, now I remember. It was a degausser* not a demagnetiser that my TV dealer brought out to my house and fixed my TV picture in a couple of minutes!. Paddy now kicks himself in head!.. oooh - that hurt.

I was just reading this thread and had a question, if i place the centre speaker from my surround sound system (v. small speaker from a Gallant Audiostorm) on top of my tv, will it cause the same problem?

centre speakers are should be placed on top of or under the tv for the best sound positioning so, by default, SHOULD be magnetically shielded. dont know ur pasticular system but i would imagine they would be shielded
