    Interesting development. I don't doubt that Eircom's defintion of "short to medium term" will turn out to be radically different to everyone else's, but pressure will be the winner here. BB4 site operators, start your engines...

    Kenmare businesses anxious to take a much broader view

    Businesses in the Kenmare area are feeling the pinch because of the launch of a proper telecommunications system in the town and warnings have been sounded that it is a disaster waiting to happen. But, as MARY MURPHY reports, local businesses have launched a campaign to secure broadband to the area which could make all the difference.

    BUSINESSES in Kenmare have stepped up their campaign to bring broadband to the South Kerry town.

    And they have appealed to Eircom to put the investment into the town’s telephone exchange to allow the roll-out of broadband in the greater Kenmare area.

    "Broadband is being deployed in Killarney and Tralee and there are plans to deploy it in Killorglin this autumn -– we just want the same treatment for Kenmare," Michael Hayes, spokesman for the Chamber of Commerce, Environment and Infrastructure Committee told The Kingdom.
