It's been a LONG time since I've seen a games show (as opposed to a <shudder> gameshow)... Hopefully it'll live up to the old golden era of games shows... when the MD and SNES allowed for lots of stupid pad bashing by nerds who wanted to prove their geekdom on TV. :D

Pity they'll probably only be taking people in the UK. Gits.

Game Pad 3 is a great show if they can better that which i doubt they be doing well.

Well they need to keep away from challenges because they just make **** television. In all the years of Gamesmaster there were about 2 challenges that even mildly entertaining. The one where Perry lost and nearly cried and the guy who could play two Virtua Cop machines at once.

They should just do a carbon copy of Film 2003 for games, and throw in more news and features. They could get Jonathan Ross to do it too, he actually knows alot about games.

It will be dire would reckon. For a start the guys say "For all you GEEKZ and FREAKZ!We has got d most wicked gamez for you with all the newz, gamez and cheatz."Its called gamesville for christ sake!what are sky one thinking!Good god its like a rap song.I'll watch for pure comedic value only.Games and tv do not work and never have which is of course a pity. But in the end its pointless I could find much more information direct from a developer in mere moments online rather than watching two men who've never even played a game before the show tell me how "Wicked" the new fifa game is. im just looking forward to sky making spanners of themselves with games again.

    Nope, worse, it's called gamezville.

Looks rubbish, sounds rubbish... and along with the deplorable cybernet - it's a bad time for gaming TV shows.

Haha, I was just berating that ad in front of the TV this morning. It looks facking sad, two black lads waving their hands all over the place and using words like 'yo', 'wicked' and all that sh1te, it's obviously the latest in a long line of laughably bad shows designed to appeal to the 'cool' gamers - i.e. it'll be all footy and racing games on the PS2, with maybe a tiny bit of Xbox and Gameboy as they're just about cool enough that the pub and club generation might be persuaded to own one (alongside the pee ess tew).

Clearly what every real gamer is looking for is CHEATZZZZZZ to fly through the game they just paid 40-whatever quid for.

Jesus I miss the likes of Bad Influence :(
    DATABLAST!

    I’d second that.

The people who make most games TV shows don’t know the market they should be aiming the show at. It’s a long the same line as the main stream view of computer games, which is thankfully changing, but changing slowly.

The times they put the shows on are ridiculous as well. around 3pm or 2-4am. 3pm shows are obviously aimed at children but 2-4am tv times are for bad pornos on channel 4. I think they are on at these times to attract true geeks. The geek is seeking out a bit of porn and sees that a show called bits or thumb bandits is on C4. Voila he has discovered a games show and can still oogle at ladies. The shows should be aimed at 20-25 year olds.

It will be a long time until there is a another games show on at a decent time like 6-8pm such as gamesmaster and bad influence.

THAT WAS BLOODY HORRIBLE IM INSULTED TO HAVE WATCHED HALF OF IT :(((((

I've just watched it and it was unbelievably dull. It wasn't as deeply irritating as LAN Jam but utterly failed to entertain.

The presenters weren't that terrible its just that they had nothing to work with. Sky just throw together the footage in a loose 'live' style. The presenters then have to just jumble though 10 minutes of the show at a time with nobody interesting to talk to.

The kids are either too young or too camera shy to make for entertaining, articulate games banter so they should just get rid of them.

The challenges were predictably ****. You'd never see 10 year olds knocking a ball about on a soccer show. Kids don't want to see other kids play. They want to see good people play.

I just wish some TV producer could have the intelligence to see that you don't have to do a weak rip off of Gamesmaster to make a games show. They should be taking inspiration from music and film shows.

They should aim the show at adults and the kids will watch it anyway. There was nothing I hated more when I was 12 than being patronised and thats all these kind of stupid shows do.

i found the "challenge" where the brother totally destroyed his sister too dull , they should at least have people of an even skill level and make it exciting...

the kids reviewing the games were too young/simple and games got bad publicity because of this

Heh, coincidentally, game-network shows some poxy softcore porn premium rate text-in show at 11 through the early hours every night.

I've noticed a couple of the other crap channels on sky digital are doing this late at night now. Wonder if they're making much money out of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,980 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

They make about 2 or 3 grand a night, so let see, pay the girls 300 each thats 1200 gone, and another 1800 left over for the producers.

I also caught the start of it, lame ass crap, reminded me of the series of gamesmaster hosted by Dexter Fletcher from press gang. a load of patronising tripe, bad influnce game reviews were by kids who really loved their games, they weren't afraid to lash a game out of it if it was crap (they tore 'rise of the robots' apart even after they built up all the hype for it). BF also had well thought out features and interviews. I remember andy crane explaining how video compression on vcds worked and a crash course on how to use simply 3d from when I was 10. I watched Games master but wasn't that much of a fan. Bits was the coolest games show on tv, the American chick knew all about the old atari and commodore games. she rocked! :)

I missed it but looks like that was a good thing.

It's a pity they don't use people who know games for these programs. Someone who appears informed is a much more appealing figure to viewers than someone who glosses over that with comedy or some personal style like tabloid shouty frentic crap. This is why the BBC is still going, despite its constant stubborn refusal to solely appeases the masses. This is also why it's the best channel around (sorry RTE but you really do suck). ... Actually I'd love to see a games show done by the BBC.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,949 ✭✭✭BLITZ_Molloy

I was thinking the same thing. If BBC would take a crack at a games show it'd be a success. They have pretty much the only good producers left in UK TV and they'd know how to present the games properly.

It's just this show has no structure. Live shows are a load of ****e.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,753 ✭✭✭Doodah7

Watched the first half of it and could stick no further. It is a show that is trying so hard to be "street". All the hands and fingers swinging around. I knew immediately it would be sh1te when the 'audience' was made up of 12 and 13 year olds.

At one stage for the review of Indy Jones whatever, the kids were so glued to the game that all they could utter were practically monosyllabic grunts. It would have been far better to switch the machines off and then ask them the questions.

Then having three or four morons search the web for gaming news... please...

It might work better if they reduced it to half an hour instead of padding it out for the full hour. Also what lame-ass time is 4pm on a Monday afternoon??...

Well in "Thumb Bandits" , Iain Lee did actually know his stuff. He was definetely a games player. It was just ruined by the fact he could be an annoying twat as well...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭El Marco

Well I actually managed to watch the next two episodes and while it still is rubbish they have at least got rid of the younger kids and now have older people reveiwing the games. The challenges really should have people who at least have equal skill and not just brother sister face off. Which makes it more barable to watch. There isn't much hope in the future though.
