OK my house after having half of it knocked down and rebuilt is being totally redone internally.

When its finished, it will have 3 livings rooms. Now instead of going and getting a seperate sound system for each, it was proposed that there be some sort of central system put together.

Each of the rooms will have a TV etc. So i propose a 5.1 satellite speaker set in each room connected to the TV and to a central server of sort. What this server would do is play the radio to the room it was accessed from or play from a huge collection of MP3s on there.

So there would have to be some sort of control system (touch screen) or maybe a wireless interface through a PDA or some sort. What would you suggest?

Also, DivX feeds from the server to the TV's would also be cool. But it would need allot of sound hardware and there might be issues with sharing with regards to switching the speaker set to the TV/DVD to play movies.

    What would you suggest? :)

    Seen anything like this before?

Wouldn't the home entertainment or technology forum be more appropriate?

Ok, to do what you want here you can spend anything from a couple of hundred Euro to tens of thousands.

A good Amp will give you connectivity to at least two sets of main speakers, but usually only to one set of rear effect speakers.
This is an expensive example but a good piece of gear. I'm presuming you want the speakers in each room to only provide the sound from the tv in that room while also playing the music from a single tuner/Satelite radio receiver/cable /mp3 player.
It would be logical and cheaper to locate a seperate amp in each room then imho, and just cable in a feed from the mp3 player or whatever to the amps in the different rooms.
A simple remote extender would control the mp3 player in the other room. A universal remote that has learned the remote code for all three amps/tv's and the mp3 player would be better still.
Thats just a suggestion if you don't want to break the bank.

Instacom are quite good actually, if you have the wads and want to go down that route, they will do it all for you to the design you want and I suspect including what you've asked:

Talk to Niall at Instacom, if thats the road you want to go down.

Regarding, Bang and Olufsen, imho, I'd steer clear of them, they are a designer brand with (compared to everything else thats available) only an average sound system and too expensive for their average quality.

A trip out to Blackrock to cloney audio at 55 main st , might be a good idea also and have a listen to the stuff in their sound rooms and home cinema room .
I'm not suggesting you purchase there, but you can certainly ask lots of questions and go away knowing a lot more.

b+f charge more for the label and look than for the spec.

example. an 128mb mp3 player costs around €200.
    i saw a b+f 128mb mp3 for €400.

just go into any of the specialist tv and hi-fi stores in town.

Try cloney audio they did the biggest projects in the country that I know of for this type of multi-room projects as you are looking for.
The deal with Crestron and did projects of 30,000 sq feet houses and 24 multi room houses etc.

    Try them.
