Are you sure DOB is on the card?

I don't know why you're giving out to me that they allow underage people to join the bar or whatever the hell they called it today. Entertainment yokie or fun pit hehehe fun pit would be cool anyway... I digress, it's perfectly reasonable for them to ask for ID. If you were going to a bar/club anywhere else and you were asked for ID you wouldn't rant about it. The bar is not owned/managed by DCU it's managed by an independent person(s) therefore they are responsible for their premisis and ensuring that their licence is not lost/violated (whatever)

If the bar was closed next week because underage drinkers were found on the premisis I've a good feeling that there'd be cries of "why didn't they check for ID" there's always shit like that and it becomes boring and tedious.

Whats the hassle with carrying ID anyway? It's a small card (if it's Garda ID) why can't people carry it around with their student cards? it's law now for under 25's to carry valid ID and in other EU countries people don't seem to have a problem with having a valid form of ID with them at all times. I think it's just the Irish attitude of lets moan about something completely insignificant and irrlevant and actually put forward no proposals to improve the situation.

Last 6 digits in the right hand corner. It should be a lot clearer, I don't know why they just don't redesign the cards.

Not giving out to you :) just expressing my frustration at the new crappy policy

Of course ID should be required to get into a licenced premise, but it has always been required. You were required to show your Student ID which varifies that you're a member of the bar and thereby or legal age. Now they want 2 forms of ID, which is what I think is stupid.

I think this is leading to the one ID for everything kinda thing.

If we could get a specialised Student Card that has the Garda logo on it or something to prove that we've gone to a Garda station and proved our identification.

Though I do know people who've gotten Garda IDs by giving someone elses birthcert but that's another issue!

I think a lot of people will forget ID etc as people do but I still think that Ragweek is either gonna require a LOT more bouncers or a lot more time. Of course I don't know if there is a ragweek cause of the new alcohol policies. Must ask someone about that actually.

Did you hear that they're banned from advertising Drinks Promotions on campus? Whether the event is on campus or not.

Definitely the bar needs to cover it's own ass - you wouldn't want it having to be shut down like it was when I went into first year (though that was for different reasons it has happened).

That's an interesting one about getting kicked out if you have a lecture. Naturally they will be none the wiser if you say you don't have a lecture or if they are the wiser you can claim it was cancelled. Did they actually ever check or suggest this? If enforced it would make a mockery of any attempt at a rag week.

Sounds to me like one of those "threat" rules that is never really enforced. Maybe they'll make a spectical of some people towards the beginning of the year by chucking them out for skipping a lecture, but thats about it. I can't see them going around asking everyone to see their timetables, otherwise people would just go to a different pub :/

    Have lectures become compulsery?

Surely not. I've had lecturers spew that they aren't compulsery for two years!! The odd one or two will fail you if you don't go but most of the ones who take attendance just use it so you've no way of saying I was at all the lectures etc etc after you've failed!!

Lectures aren't compulsory but it's probably more the college being seen as irresponsible having a bar on campus and giving students an alternative to lectures.

There's too many nasty journalists in the College and if they start doing their homework on the reasons why people don't attend lectures the finger would be quickly pointed at the bar and criticism would ensue. Without actually enforcing the rule they are giving themselves breathing space.
