Rise of nations multiplayer problem

Im trying to run a multiplayer game of rise of nations over a LAN(2 computers). It works on one machine, the create screen etc comes up but on the other comp when i click on either gamespy or LAN/Direct Internet it tells me "Unable to establish network connection, please check your connection and try again" Im using XP and…

Im using XP and have checked all the LAN settings and they seem fine. Oh and i took down the firewall too but still no joy.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Can you ping the other computer from dos?
