    All,

Can any one direct me on this one.

My CD/DVD drive has gone missing. It is not reconised on startup.
I have searched the web for a driver but can't find any thing. This all has happened since my laptop was infected by the f-ing msblast.exe worm.
Usually on previous m/c's I have installed a driver to restore. I didn't receive anything/discs from MS or PackardBell.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Am currently running XP. I thought the plug/play marvels of MS would pick it up but no. The drive/laptop is 3 months old and is powering up.

    ??

    Thanks,
    Rich.

Have you tried to delete the drive from device manager(if its there), and see if windows picks it up again
What about Bios, does the CD still appear there?, make sure it aint disabled

Unfortunately, It's not in file-manager/explorer to delete and it is also showing in the BIOS.
When I goto ADD HARDWARE it is picking up the driver, ie: Name/Model and says it's disabled but after that, it doesn't install.

The drive does power up and spins when CDs are inserts. Tis only 3 months old.

I cannot boot the rescue disc from it, Hmmm, maybe the drive it at fault ?

    (Damn DVD porn).

    Rich.

    Is it in Device Manager?

(right-click my Computer, Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button, check under DVD/CDROM drives)

If it is, is it disabled in there?

Couldn't get it going. Tried everything !!!
Got onto customer service couldn't do anything either.
1 of the problems possible was that I only had a Recovery CD which was no use !! The guy reckoned that The recovery floppy wouldn't be any use either. So I dropped it back to PCWorld, where some regular booked it in.

It's gone back to the suppliers.

Will update if I get an explanation on what the prob was....
