Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

people who are against booing want to destroy the links between ireland and celtic. you's hate being associated with celtic and just think everything about them is sectarian and racist.

we dont go to landsdowne to support celtic, nobody does. as for scotland being a weaker league, celtic played 10-15 european matches last year and they play rangers 4 or more times a season. more than enough quality opposition.

booing is harmless and blown out of porportion by anti-celtic fans and those who support an english club instead.

Celtic was founded by irish members of the catholic clergy to help feed the Irish. A lot of the rivalry (at least from an irish persons perspective) that has grown up between celtic and rangers revolves around religion. Generally the protestants in scotland and northern ireland rallied together against catholics and used the differentiation to make sure that there was always a lower rung on the ladder to themselves - ie the catholics. It was also both rangers and protestant policy to not give jobs to catholics, clubs like celtic helped to make life more bearable.

It is links like this - both historical and religious (and quite often bigotted - on both sides) that means that the link between Ireland and Celtic will never be broken.

To highlight the rivalry between Celtic and Rangers at an Irish match will never be seen (by me anyway) as football rivalry. Celtic and Rangers fans have every right in the world to boo each other and call it football rivalry - but at an Irish match, whether it is being done by celtic fans or EL fans it is always going to look bad. It is always going to look like something borne out of hatred built up through the historical and cultural conflict that exists between Irish people and clubs like Rangers.

Perhaps one might feel this is stating the case very harshly - but it's going to be seen that way by a lot of people and creates a bad impression.

Semon, that is a pretty poor defence of the Scottish league. The early rounds of Europe are fairly easy - England usually gets 4 or 5 teams to the later stages of Europe - Scotland rarely gets more than 1. 4 competitive league matches - and English league clubs have 2 matches against each of Newcastle, ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea - all above Rangers and Celtics level and several other teams at or close to the same level.

It depends on the situation that is getting booed. If it is something that is causing uefa to sit up and take note then I'm not sure how it is harmless.

Eh, I'm a Celtic fan, and I think booing Rangers players at Ireland matches is moronic. Where do I fit in?

And why do you single out those who support an English club? Surely we're all in the same boat, i.e. support teams from outside our own bloody country?!?

You're just repeating yourself. Give it a rest.

those non-celtic fans that only support an english club. their the ones that moan. (mostly).

ireland is different to any other country with the celtic links and all that, nobody else has it so we cant be compared to anyone else. ok2boo wouldnt have been setup unless there were a hell of alot of people supporting booing rangers.

You miss my point. Regardless of whether they criticise the booing or not, people who support English clubs and people who support Celtic have something in common...they give their allegiance to clubs from outside this country.

You won't find a better link to Ireland than actually playing in the country now, will you???;)

And I should never have started this in the first place. Please lets not turn this into a Eircom League vs. the world battle, mkay?

    booing is fine

but celtic and ireland are two completley seperate things regardless of what plenty of idiots would like to think so keep your rivalries for ibrox and parkhead where they belong

if you want to boo then boo the entire opposition team ala Turkey

C'mon, why did you have to bring this thread back from the dead just to repeat what a lot of people have already said. This thread gets me angry and should be closed for EVER!

Say whatever you like about some geezer from ireland founding glasgow celtic back in 1888 but the bottom line is that they are a scottish club, they are registered with the scottish authorities they are recognised by UEFA and FIFA as being a scottish club. Therefore they are no less a foregin club than Man U L`pool etc.

if celtic fans want to boo for "football rivalry reasons" they can go to ibrox or park head. The fact that they are booing rangers players at a republic of ireland international match is an implication that these players are being booed for secterian reasons.

I somewhat doubt that irish Man U or Everton fans will be booing stephane henchoz on the basis that he plays for liverpool.
