New Abit Mobo giving trouble 8(

Right ladies (i wish) and gentlemen, This is an odd one and im hoping you guys might be able to help.
Got my new mobo the other day (Abit NF7-s V2.0) got everything sorted no problems got some nice clocking out of her all ready still plenty of room for fine tuning and solved a few condensation issues that arose.
Problem is connecting to the net. Im one of about 10 (well seems that way) Fortunate people to have a NTL cable connection and ive neer had trouble before but now when i hook everything up and install all the drivers, i got no net. The modem sees my pc and is sending data to and from but i cant get anything in IE or get MSN to sign on.
The one thing i think it could be is the fact that i didnt install the usb v.2 drivers because i assumed v.1 would be good enough for internet use (wish i had a 400mb/s connection....) and because the drivers didnt come with the abit CD, instead the CD came with a link to the MS website where i could download win XP sp1 which i dont think i can do cause No.1 cant get net on my pc and No.2 i have an erm "back up" copy of XP. Anyone know where i could get SP1? and will that solve my problems?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers Dev.

afaik sp1 has the usb2 drivers on it you can download it at microsofts site but since u can't get online in IE you'll hav to get them from another computer and then transfer the file over (30mb) a pen drive would do nicely

See thats the problem.... I "share" my CD key and it wont let me install sp1 because i have and "invalid cd key" which obviously is a mistake on M$'s part i mean its perfectly valid *cough*, anyone know any ways around this?

    I'm hugely confused Ted.
Are you saying that XP let you install it with an invalid key and continue to use it? I won't ask about product activation here as that's easy enough to get around. If you can't get on the net, where are you trying to install sp1 from?
Or is windows update telling you to F off because of the invalid key?
    More info please.

Ah i see where your going wrong, the key is fine for installing windows but the SP doesnt like it, no sir-ee not one bit and i gotta copy of another pc in my gaff but i cant install cause like i said gives an invalid cd key error. Any way around it?
    Cheers Dev

Did you use a keygen or the proper cd key for the XP you installed? (I can see this getting locked tbh) The reason I ask is I had a single XP license, let's say spread twice as thin as it should have been, and never had a problem with service pack or update installation. I did have the correct CD key to install it with tho'.

I dont know what the CD key was tbh i got the CD off a mate and the key was written on it. Come to think about it the key has been used quite a few times by me on different pc's and im sure my mate used it alot too.... Did you use a key gen or what? is getting a legit key the only way around it?
    cheers dev.

SP1 has a list of dodgy keys that it wont accept, what you do is get a cd key changer and contact microsoft and get yourself a real key and change your cd key to that.
