    It's...
    BUCK 65

    plus special guests:
    MESSIAH J & THE EXPERT

This Saturday, 30th August '03 - Whelan's of Wexford Street.

Doors 8.00pm, tickets €13.50 (inc. booking fee) from usual outlets.

The brand new Buck 65 album, 'Talkin' Honky Blues', is out here on Friday week, September 5th.

Messiah J & The Expert (formerly known as Creative Controle) release their debut album, 'release a single, 'First Place' (Volta Sounds), the following Friday, September 12th, followed by their keenly-anticipated, début album,
'What's Confusing You', on September 26th.

    - From Time Out (Aug '03):

"It might not be famous for a lot of things (I have no idea what they could be, but I'm betting maritime history is involved - and quite possibly moose), but hip hop sure ain't one of them. Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Canada's eastern seaboard, seems an unlikely hotbed of rhyming talent, but hey, why the hell not? Who says Canucks can't bust beats too?"

"Buck 65 is Richard Terfry, whose UK debut of last year, 'Square', marked him out as one of the most original artists to have emerged from the sprawling (white) hip hop underground for some time. He's an eccentric talent with a compelling live delivery and a fine line in comic asides, as last year's brilliant show at the Union Chapel proved."

"Buck's rhymes are bruised andbent by personal experience - whether dealing with the fallout from his infidelity or describing the best technique for giving shoes a professional shine - awesomely strong on narrative and dynamic on delivery. It's all cracked and fractured, lo-fi stuff and distinctly noir-ish, but forthcoming new album 'Talkin' Honky Blues' (due out September 8 on WEA) strides off into more expansive territory, with pedal-steel, banjo, and wheezy accordion textures added to his moody
    electronically manipulated beatscapes."

"There's lyrical loveliness, too, alongside a parade of the kinds of freaks and deadbeats who poulate Tom Waits' world."

"Buck 65 is here to give a whole new meaning to the phrase 'beat poet'; the Halifax tourist board might want to update its list of attractions quick smart."
