This is probably a silly question, but ever since i've started reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series of books i've been dying to know if it'd be possible to get something similiar to Rand's arm dragon's done.
For those who don't know, what it basically is, is thousands of little pieces of metal and jewellery placed into the skin so that they become part of the skin basically. Each piece forming a scale or a tooth, claw or eye etc.
Anyone know for definite if this is possible or not, cause i'd pay any price to do it if it was possible, though it'd probably cost me two legs to get it done.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I dont think this is possible. You can get metal shapes placed under the skin to give 3d shapes to tattoo's, but the only way of getting metal on top of the skin would be (1) Some sort of glue (not recommended) (2) Some type of custom made surface peircing jewellery, which would probably be impossible to make, weigh too much, and be insanely expensive. I really cant imagine any other way, c'mon people, prove me wrong.....:ninja:

Yea, I was pretty sure it was impossible, but come on, it would be cool if it was possible, so on that slim chance, I said i'd ask, seeing as how it's been at the back of my mind for years.
What's this you say of getting metal under the skin for tattoos? Sounds interesting.

Basically, metal can be implanted under the skin, making parts of a tattoo stick out, giving a 3d effect.

    Examples are at:

    3d collar bone implants:

Jesus why would you want to do such a thing to yourself? Looks painful!

Wow! I can't say I'm too fond of the actual implants, but the tattoos are stunning!

Well, the star one's look pretty darn kewl. Is it expensive? Do many places do it? In waterford preferably?

Not sure, but i'd think about it at least.

That lizardman one is a bit overboard though i think.

Oh good god...I feel sick after looking at that. That girl's collar bone implants are disgusting. And yer man's tongue...eeww! The lizard concept is deadly though, even if it makes me feel sick!

Yea, I don't think i'd ever get 'em done in large amounts or anything, but one or two small one's would be kewl.

Anyone know anywhere around that does 'em?

Hey man, as far as I know snakebite up here in Dublin do implants. Price wise I would imagine it would be around €70 - €80 euro per implant, allthough this is a rough estimate, and the price really depends on what you are getting implanted in, a smaller piece would cost less than a larger piece.

Denis O Leary and Sandi : if you can only post negative 'eww that's so disgusting' posts here, then please don't post at all.

But I'm being serious. Why would you want ti inflict such pain on yourself and pay for it? Although they do look pretty class.

I also commented on a certain concept being good. That's a bit harsh...

Thats like saying you dont want to drive to the fun fair because you are going to use up some of your petrol. If you think something is pretty class and would look great and make you feel good, aint it worth a little pain.

    Yeah you are right.

Do they cause you much pain after they have been put in under the skin?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 177 ✭✭dragon_ninja82

The thing I find about pain is its all positional. A pain in your tooth is terrible, but if you had the same pain in your arm it wouldnt bother you at all as much. Much the same case here, getting your arm pierced isnt that bad at all, and there tends to be little to no pain during the healing process.

I personnally prefer if the person piercing me has at least a few visible piercings so I know that they'll empathise with how it feels & alsoI'll know that they're not just sadistic bastards :( So in the same vein, if I was thinking about getting implants or transdermals, I'd like to go to someone who had this done, so preferably Glen in Adonis. That way you can see what you're getting done & talk about the healing process etc with confidence. I amy be wrong & there may be piercers in Dublin with more of this work done, so correct me...

On the other hand I was chatting with someone online about this same topic & she had transdermals in her back that didn't heal properly & had to be removed by a plastic surgeon... not fun!

That's a fair point. I have a preference for a certain piercer because of past experiences with him, from the conversations I've had, the information I've been given & in general, I'm very comfortable & confident enough to have him perforate me as regularly as I can come up with something I want to have done. So having had conversations with him about implants, I know that he actually trained the guy who did at least the cranial implants. I think if someone is that confident to put themselves at the mercy of someone they've taught, I'll be happy to let him do the work on me!

And now I'm off to set up my 'I love Glen' fanclub & try & organise to get a free piercing after all this praise....:p

(Not, of course, to in any way say that there aren't any other great piercers out there...there are, except for Metalmorphosis, which I think we'll all agree, are butchers!)

In case anyone is wondering I think SonOfBattles misunderstood what kind of tatoo this character Rand got, it was a normal tatoo, in the sense that it had no metal implanted into the skin. What was diffrent about it was that it shone and looked like it was alive/metal so SonOfBattles, dont get some metal showed into your arms, they tend to be usefull.:D .

Last I checked no tatooist in the world (this world) can channel (good lord I sound like such a nerd:rolleyes: ). Unless I'm wrong anyone here know of one with Magical Powers?

Implants do not deprive you of the use of your limbs.

    Really, whoops!!, my bad Offlercrocgod.

Still be cool to have though no? And maybe someday my dream of having them will come true, we'll see.

At the least I know I can get the raven's branded onto my palms since that's pretty cool as well. I'd wait a few year's before I got them though, as I'd want to have a steady job, maybe even a retirement behind me before I got something so visible and permenant.

    We'll see.
