It wasn't Given. I can't remember the guy's name, but I think he played for Huddersfield at the time.

Sorry for the delay - as I said before, I'm not here too often, so here's the one I posted (and withdrew) before and I'll leave you with the website where you can find the answer, so you won't have to wait for me to tell you you're right.

5 clubs have won the old English first division the season after being promoted from the second. Who are they?

Hmmm, in the interest of keeping this thread alive I'll 'guess' Liverpool/Everton/Spurs/Ipswich/Notts Forest.

Here's my question : in 1906/07 Shelbourne came 2nd in the League and Bohemians came 5th. But who came 1st?

    Shamrock Rovers ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,986 ✭✭✭Big Ears

    ST. Paths ?

It wasn't Pats or Shamrock Rovers.

    Clue : It wasn't a Dublin club.

Is the Team still going or has it changed name ...

There was a team before Cork City called Cork Corinthians or somethin , is that it ???

Is this one of those trick questions where the teams aren't Irish but are in Paraguay or Bolivia or somewhere like that?

Nope, this is the Shelbourne FC that play at Tolka Park and the Bohemians FC that play at Dalymount Park.

The club in question still exists (with the same name now as it was then) and I'm pretty sure if your any sort of fan of footy you'd have heard of them.

    Sligo Rovers

    Not Sligo either.

This seems to be proving tougher than I thought but keep the answers coming. If nobody gets it by tommorow then I'll post the answer.

An educated guess is Linfield FC?
I think there was an all Ireland league (and team) in those days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭LizardKing

    What about Londonderry F.C ....

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 glasgowspremier

    Who are they?
Maybe a predecessor of Derry City FC (Founded 1928)

    We have a winner!

Yep, prior to 1921 (and the formation of the FAI) Bohs and Shels played in the Irish League against familiar names such as Linfield, Glentoran and Distillery etc.

Check here if you don't believe me! :)

    Next question from glasgowpremier.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Oswald Osbourne

I think it was shevchenko. Don't know how many goals tho. I'll guess 12.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 glasgowspremier

Sorry for the delay in replying people - I was away watching football.
This one should be easy enough.
Who scored for Limerick in both the home and away legs of their European Cup match with Real Madrid in 1980?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,986 ✭✭✭Big Ears

the answer to my question was shevchenko and with 10 goals.

    Tony Ward

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 glasgowspremier

    Nope.
Good guess though Mr Memory. I have a feeling he only played in the first leg, though I am open to correction.
Now that I think of it - whoever can give the correct answer re: Tony Ward would most likely be able to answer the goal scorer question as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭bucks73

Youre right. He only played the first leg. Mate told me who scored but I will let others have a go.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 glasgowspremier

5 days and no reply. If there isn't a correct reply posted by tomorrow I will ask Bucks73 to post his reply and (if correct) a question of his own.
So come on now - there must be somebody out there who remembers the glory days at the Markets field in the 80s

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 glasgowspremier

Give us your answer bucks73 and we will see if your mate is right.

Which golfer has played in more majors in one season than anyone else?

 Is this a trick question ? There are only 4 majors in a season & most players attend all of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭bucks73

I wouldnt call it a trick question as such. Jack Nicklaus and a few others previously held the record and it was beaten this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭bucks73

Ok thats three days so heres the answer.

Tom Watson played in nine majors this season. The Master, US Open, USPGA, British Open and also the five senior majors of which he won two.

The record was eight but this year the British Seniors open was awarded Major status and he was the only player to compete in all nine events.

nope. and I think you should have to name the player too !!

life is already too easy on you all

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 2,884 Mod ✭✭✭✭celticfc

I'm sure it was Dominic Dale about 3 or 4 years ago in the World championship. I'm not too sure about how many. I think it was either 157, 167 or 187 (something with a 7 at the end anyway).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭Yavvy

    Celtic, you take the prize...

167 Dominic Dale v Nigel Bond in 1999 Embassy World Championship (R1) (Break 122 plus one red and 11 successive misses worth 44)

    your go my friend
