Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Maradonna (86-90-94)

Mind you I only remember him scoring in 86 (many times) and 94. Maybe he didn't do it in 90. Or even in 82

I'll stop wittering now. I must be wrong.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Oswald Osbourne

Maradona did indeed score in 86 & 94 but not in 90. He does have the record for the most fouled player in that tournament tho :)

    paulo/valentino rossi ( why am i always wrong !!! )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

    Was it Rivelino? 70, 74 and 78?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Oswald Osbourne

No to those two, but they were good guesses! Rossi didn't in 86 and Rivelino didn't in 78.

C'mon people, this guy is a legend! ;) And he's even played in the English league so there's no excuse not to know him.

    ah Jurgen Klinsman

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Oswald Osbourne

Forgot about him, but yes, that is a correct answer! Klinsmann 90-94-98.

The guy I was actually looking for was (surprisingly) Scotlands JOE JORDAN who achieved it in 74-78-82.

    Anyway, next question Bbop......

3rd day of silence.... maybe I'll step into the breach with this one....

In the history of test cricket, only three sides have won after being forced to follow-on.

Winners, opposition and when, needed please!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,981 ✭✭✭Big Ears

i dont think many people will be able to answer that ( dont forget this is an irish boards thing. )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

India did it within the last year or so, against Australia.

England did it famously in 1981 (the Botham test) also against Australia.

And I think I remember reading/hearing that the third one, or the first chronologically, was also done against Australia. I'll guess West Indies back in 1950-something.

i was right few(0 to be precise) people have answered the question correctly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

All right. Six days have elapsed. Nobody knows about some cricket match that took place fifty years ago, give or take a few months. You've stumped us (Heh. See what I did there?)

Please either post a correct answer and a new question within the next four hours or I will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

    Well?

Can we have a yay or nay please?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

Feck it. I'm going to give a question whether I've earned the right to do so or not.

Name four sets of brothers who have played together in a World Cup Final (that's the final match, not the tournament) since the second World War. I'm excluding the Brazilian pair of Nilton and Djalma Santos from this because I'm not sure that they were brothers. From the grainy photographs I've seen of them, I've formed the impression that one was black and one was white.

Anyway, apart from them there were four pairs of brothers who lined up together for a World Cup Final since the war. Their names please.

    These are they:

Fritz and Ottmar Walter - Germany 1954
Jack and Bobby Charlton - England 1966
Rene and Willy Van de Kerkhof - Holland 174 & 1978
    Bernd and Karl-Heinz Förster - Germany 1982.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

    Well that was quick.

Though I don't think both Van DER Kherkoff twins played in 1974.

    Your question sir/madam.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 glasgowspremier

OK, an easy one this time.
Name the international player (not Irish) who scored for both teams when Liverpool beat Aston Villa 4-1 to clinch the 1979-80 League Championship at Anfield but did not receive a medal as he had not payed enough games during the season?

Anyway heres my Question. Ireland have played Holland 8 times since 1987. What's been geographically unusual about the fixture?

    They've played in every continant?

They've played 4 of them at home, in Dublin and in Holland, and 4 in neutral venues, Germany 1988, Italy 1990, USA 1994, and Liverpool in 1995.

    Or is there something more?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Oswald Osbourne

You're on the right lines with variety - but it's not specifically a country or continent answer/issue.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

They've all been at different venues

    1988 Gelsenkirchen
    1990 Palermo
    1993? Tilburg
    1994 Orlando
    1995 Anfield
    2000 Amsterdam
    2001 Lansdowne Road

and somewhere else not mentioned above

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    Tolka Park or Dalymount?

I was going for 'all played in different cities' but your answer is equally valid. Next Question HH.

Rotterdam 1996 was the missing one

Whoops. Sorry for the delay! Out of the country for the past few days.
    Here's one I hope I haven't asked before.

Which club which has never been English League soccer Champions (Old first Div or Premiership) would have been so in the 1920s if Goal Difference instead of the arcane Goal Average had been used to separate teams tied on points?
