    Quote:

"Freeserve today announced a "no risk" offer for its broadband service - on the same day that news of its distribution deal with Dixons had finally collapsed.

"Punters signing up for Freeserve's broadband service will receive their modem and connection kit for free, and will be charged £27.99 for the first month's fee.

"If they like it, then they carry on paying each month as usual. If they don't, they can hand back their modem and connection kit and have their £27.99 refunded.

"According to Freeserve's research, customers are reluctant to sign up for broadband because it is a "great unknown".

"They are afraid to commit to Broadband without having trialled the product first," said Keith Hawkins of Freeserve. "Our new offer allows them to do just that."

"Freeserve's "no risk" offer runs until the end of December"

France Telecom's Wanadoo owns Freeserve in GB. In France http://adsl.free.fr/ (a competitor of Wanadoo) has been offering BB for EUR 29.99 per month with a free modem and no minimum contract period for about a year. It must be working if their main competitor is copying the tactic in other markets...

at the same time €ircon has announced:

'Try i-Stream Starter today. Only €99 installation and we even throw in a modem for €145. If by some miracle your line actually passes our test you will only be charged €54.45 a month for the first 12 months and then if you're not happy you can cancel and keep the modem'.

See, now, if the Eircom offer included something like the this...

"If your line fails, which is quite likely, we'll bring the moronic tosser that tried to sell it to you round to your gaff so you can shove the DSL modem right up his arse. This is a limited offer! Must end sooon!"

...well, that'd be a whole different kettle of fish.
