Has anything been decided on the proposed strike at Aer Rianta?

The strike was supposed to be on the 15th Sept but I haven't heard anything about it in the last few days.

I'm due to fly on the 17th and don't want a repeat of what happened to me last May/June when Aer Fungus went on strike!

Employees meet over Aer Rianta breakup
    September 4, 2003

(17:46) Hundreds of Aer Rianta employees attended a meeting this afternoon at Dublin Airport to press local TDs on where they stand on Government plans to break up the company.

Twenty-two TDs from six constituencies were invited to the meeting and seven turned up.

While none of these was from Fianna Fáil, union leaders received a letter from Fianna Fáil TD Sean Haughey stating he was 'totally opposed' to the plan to break up the company.

Similar meetings are planned in Cork and Shannon.

A ballot for industrial action across Aer Rianta will be counted on Saturday.

Aer Rianta workers could target EU presidency - union
    From:ireland.com

    15:13:42:

Aer Rianta workers may take industrial action during Ireland's EU presidency if talks with the Government over the break-up of the company prove unsuccessful, the TEEU warned today.

Announcing the results of a ballot in which members voted 81 per cent in favour of industrial action, regional secretary Mr Arthur Hall warned the Minster for Transport, Mr Brennan, to listen to his members or face potentially embarrassing disruption during the presidency which start on January 1st.

Mr Hall said the vote "reflects the growing anger of our members at Transport Minister Seamus Brennan's apparent inability to listen to anything other than the sound of his own voice".

He said industrial action would be "a weapon of last resort" and that the union wanted to engage in talks in a "positive manner". But he warned Mr Brennan not to "sabotage the current talks as he has sabotaged past talks".

In the even of action being taken, the union would seek to minimise disruption to the public, Mr Hall said.

"We will probably engage in creative initiatives similar to those of CIE workers and, if a satisfactory resolution to the dispute is not possible in the meantime, we will have to look very seriously at our options during the EU presidency," he added.

SIPTU yesterday announced it members at Aer Rianta had voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.

Strikes plan for EU presidency INDUSTRIAL action by Siptu members in Aer Rianta is set to cause massive disruptions during Ireland's presidency of the EU next year.

Siptu members voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action in their dispute over the planned break up of the company. They voted 85 per cent in favour of industrial action.

Two other unions, the TEEU and Mandate, also voted for the industrial action. It is believed the action will be taken early next year in order to cause maximum disruption to Ireland's EU presidency.

Aer Rianta unions meet Department officials
    From:ireland.com
    Tuesday, 9th September, 2003

Unions representing workers at Aer Rianta are meeting senior officials at the Department of Transport this evening to discuss the future of the company.

The 5 p.m. meeting comes days after unions voted overwhelmingly for industrial action over the proposed break-up of the company.

Three unions - SIPTU, Mandate and the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) - voted for industrial action following a refusal by the company to provide guarantees about conditions of employment in the event of the break-up going ahead.

IMPACT union, representing managers, expects its ballot result later this week.
