before you buy any headphones I would recommend you to read a bit in the following portals:

    Headwize
    Headroom

I personally have the HD-600 and I really like them.

Dear god no. Don't buy them.

Go to http://www.head-fi.org and search for Bose if you want a lot of (mostly negative) comments, but if you want the jist of it:
They perform like a EUR25-40 pair of 'phones, semi-decent but nowhere near the retail price.

If you want a really decent pair of headphones then consider purchasing from Meier Audio:
    http://home.t-online.de/home/meier-audio/
Every can which Jan stocks would give better results than the tri-ports.

Personally I've the HD580s and they're amazing, those and the 600s really only come to life when paired with a headphone amp though... look for cans with a low impedance (<150) .. basically means they're easier to drive and will invariably sound better out of standard headphone sockets...

Personally I'd reccomend either Sennheiser 590s or Beyer DT250-80s for an extremely good all-round (music and source-wise) pair.

[edit] the 590s (in fact the whole Sennheiser range) are available at very decent prices at http://www.askdirect.co.uk

Oh came across this site this morning..
    http://www.jigsaw24.com/cats/musician_store/

They sell a pretty decent range of mid-quality cans from Beyerdynamic, AKG & Sennheiser..

    choice picks: Beyer DT770 (real bass-heavy), DT990, DT250-80, DT250-250, AKG 271

and best of all 5 quid (sterling) delivery!

Think I'll be pickin up the K271s as a second pair...

Ken, watching money go down the drain.
