The other site was too slow - so here are the lyrics for karaoke..

    ``There's antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium,
And hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium
    And nickel, neodymium, neptunium, germanium,
    And iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium,
    Europium, zirconium, lutetium, vanadium
And lanthanum and osmium and astatine and radium
And gold, protactinium and indium and gallium (inhale)
And iodine and thorium and thulium and thallium.

    ``There's yttrium, ytterbium, actinium, rubidium
    And boron, gadolinium, niobium, iridium
And strontium and silicon and silver and samarium,
And bismuth, bromine, lithium, beryllium and barium.

    ``Isn't that interesting?
    I knew you would.
I hope you're all taking notes, because there's gonna be a short quiz next period.

``There's holmium and helium and hafnium and erbium
And phosphorous and francium and fluorine and terbium
And manganese and mercury, molybdinum, magnesium,
Dysprosium and scandium and cerium and cesium
And lead, praseodymium, and platinum, plutonium,
    Paladium, promethium, potassium, polonium, and
    Tantalum, technetium, titanium, tellurium, (inhale)
And cadmium and calcium and chromium and curium.

``There's sulfur, californium and fermium, berkelium
And also mendelevium, einsteinium and nobelium
And argon, krypton, neon, radon, xenon, zinc and rhodium
    And chlorine, carbon, cobalt, copper,
    Tungsten, tin and sodium.

``These are the only ones of which the news has come to Harvard,
And there may be many others but they haven't been discovered.''

    Cf. http://chemlab.pc.maricopa.edu/periodic/lyrics.html

PS. Check out his other stuff eg: "I'll hold your hand in mine dear"

Anyone know I can get the lyrics to his version of "show me the way to go home" - starts off as
    "direct me to my abode,
for I am wery and wish to retire ..."

I think the song is based on the rhyme :

"I am the very model of a model major general,
I've information animal, vegetable and mineral...."

as sung by Barney in the Simpsons episode where Homer goes into space! How does the rest of that go, does anybody know?

PS: Sodim Fluoride is Naf! (/me hangs head in nerdy shame)

Now thats a nerd song if there ever was one.

A lot of people get the wrong idea about Tom Lehrer from that song/movie. He is actually a really funny singer from the 50s and 60s who wrote a song that he described as "completely pointless" to sing when he was in Harvard. Really I think he was taking the piss and writing the kind of song they would like.

He was a maths talking guy during the day.

I like "holding your hand in mine dear" whatever it was called.

I'm convinced he did a version of "Show me the way to go home" but I can't find it anywhere, goes something like ..
"direct me to my abode for I'm wery and wish to retire ..
... and it's gone right to the top of my anatomy ..
    or aggitated water "

    PLAGERIZE!!!!

It's actually called 'Lobachevsky' and sounds much better live.

But to think of 3 rhymes for plagiarize is amazing. That man is the master of polysyllabic rhyming.

"And this is what he said on
    His way to armageddon"

    "Out comes the matador
Who must have been potted or
Slightly insane but who looked rather bored"

"The druggist on the corner, he
    Was never mean or ornery
    He was swell"

I *believe* the song is a Gilbert and Sullivan rip - very well done too I'm sure the duo would have liked it:p.

Seeing as how G&S was not licensed for use in the USA at the time ..... it could be argued that he devised the tune himself :D

    "posioning pigeons in the park"
