Downloading Q3 Test.

Gah, Been trying for nearly an hour. Canne get in, there's just too much traffic.

I lied.

After much effort, I am now currently on 11% download. (oops 12% now).

For those of you stupid enough to want to try, the only way I found to get it was via ftp.cdrom.com. Everything else was browned out. It's in pub/idgames/idstuff/quake3/win32. Dunno what those other files are, but I'll d/l the GL set up one, and see what it does. I already have my Q3 drivers loaded, so I'm ready to run. I'll post sommit when I get started. Cloud, get that Server up and running.

BTW, there was an article on the Q3 test release in the Irish Times, computer section yesterday (page 10). Anyone else see it?

got 68% this mornin before leavin for work from barrysworld ftp, just set my getright to retry every 5secs, it got in after 15mins and off it went

Is that glsetup.exe really needed. I've a V2 and didn't bother downloading it, yet things are running real SMOOOOTH!!!

Jaden's right, the download site from q3download.b0rk.co.uk is DAMN fast - got 180k/sec this morning in Trinity!!!...

If really needed, I can put it up on one of the college servers?

jazz, are there any computer in college that can actually run it?

It wouldnt install on the NT computers, so I'm in eastend now but they dont have 3d cards.

Just in case anyone's wondering, there's no point in downloading the glsetup unless you have a Voodoo3 card. I quote from the glsetup page at http://www.glsetup.com/ihvs/3dfx/3dfxno.htm :

"Unfortunately, the initial GLSetup Public Beta v0.99 does not support all 3Dfx chipsets. Only Voodoo 3 is supported in the GLSetup.exe archive. OpenGL drivers for the other 3Dfx chipsets are available on the web at the link below."

So if you don't have a voodoo3, I reckon give that hefty 23MB download a miss.

'Fraid not Skyclad, I wish it was. It says in the readme

"There is no software-only version of the game. If your computer is not hardware accelerated with a game compatible graphics card, you will NOT be able to run Q3Test."

Alright ladies and gentlemen, I have put the q3test up on the Trinity Jazz Society's webpage, accessible at

Included is the q3test, the glsetup.exe (only voodoo3 and others - see above), as well as the newest Quake3-compatible voodoo2 drivers (rkv2dx6.exe) from www.3dfx.com.

The link is on the bottom left-hand corner of the page... enjoy!

That's true - really freaky that lot!!!

Started a download on the Q3 test here from that Trinity page (Cheers Jazz) on my really fast college connection - 21 hours and 5 mins remaining at 0.2k a second.
