Q3 Teamplay Server

    Lets get a TP Server up and running for a few clan matches.

    1.Start a Q3 server
    2.set teamflags 3
    3.set dmflags 1
    4.type map <mapname>

    Now players can team red/blue and use messagemode2 and say_team for teamtalk.

    check out http://www.bluesnews.com/quake3/ for all the info on the test so far, config stuff etc.

    YES! I'd really like a q3 war server up, perhaps take down that q3test2 (for LANs/LPBs) map server and have it as a war server on q3test1 instead?

    we just ran a q3 teamplay server down in nethouse and it was the proverbial dogs bollix. q3dm1 rocks as a teamplay level and youve no idea what it sounds like hearing Dev screaming "I am Quad" across the room smile.gif

    Lets be serious

    Ok teamplay server is not hard to set up - (forget that business up top), There are some other difficulties immediately

    1. The teamplay ISNT FINISHED AT ALL and needs an admin in the game with rcon and possibly console direct !
    (dont forget it wasnt enabled normally cos THEY DIDNT want it tested. or it would have been mentioned

    2. servers share logfiles and source files(cos it ISNT finishedand have no mods.)- and a ffa running would be affected by a team mod - flags etc would carry over - NIGHTMARE!

    3. NOT ONLY do you type TEAM BLUE, (but to cope with UTTER silliness one has to go set yur skin color to blue or have mad confusion)
    (ppl who dont join teams can be on server getting killed and killing ppl !
    4. Unless yur using fullbrights skins color difference is mininal

    So basically - an online teamplay server is not as good an idea as it may seem UNTIL the teamplay codding is finsihed on client and server side. Which its very much isnt.

    2. great on a lan when u can organise easier.. and nethouse has good setups on most machines now.

    dont over anticipate what this code can do - or be dissapointed.

    if the q3 teamplay server was on a different box than the ffa ones, grand, no problems with flags & logs. when q1 & q2 came out the war servers were a mess, you did have muppets jumping in etc etc. so what? if it was setup just for a match it wouldn't be a problem. the clans playing sort out teams in IRC before going on, they warmup until the level changes and then they play. brings back memories that smile.gif

    Suggestion was WAIT - FFa is cool nuff and before we start getting serious - let people enjoy the game - and learn the nuances - let newbies enjoy the game - chill out a bit. and enjoy .... ermm .. the game

    Its not much different to organise than what you have in q1 wars atm. Where your playing a q1 war you have to type color <whatever> and team <whatever>. If someone types in the wrong team or colour it ends up ruining the game. How is q3 more akward than that?

    Its a test proggie ffs. From what i can see q3test has been put toghether to give id some feedback on the client side code. Not for server stuff, even tho its there. As Suds mentioned and as everyone probably knows by now; q3test server code is utter shyte. Example: in Nethouse we couldnt have ANY outside net access while q3test lan games were going, the network wasnt able to handle it, plus q3 crashed every 3rd or 4th game necessitating a full reboot, this may have been due to the new 3dfx drivers coyote had on the machines or computer-specific problems but the fact still remains that q3test server is very unstable. So dinnae push it!!!
