Got this in the mail today. It seems this time that there will be a reunion.

    http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/03-09/10.shtml

I just really have my doubts for many reasons.

    1. Black francis has become frank black and is much more mellow. Therefore where would the pixies sound come from?

    2. He broke up the band to avoid commercialism. Surely that is what this reunion reeks of.

Having said all that, I'd kill to see them live. I've seen Frank Black play with joey santiago, and i've see Kim with her band, but to see them all togther!!

So when he instantly went solo he became mellow? Definetly not. While his recent album Black Letter Days (I haven't recieved Show Me Your Tears yet) was pretty bluesy, him (and the Catholics) have made louder, weirder songs than The Pixies. I'm sure he is well able to take on the role of Black Francis again, I mean, Frank Black and The Pixies aren't polar oppisites. They're both pretty similar bands and he still plays his Pixies songs at his shows just as well as did ten years ago.

    2. He broke up the band to avoid commercialism. Surely that is what this reunion reeks of.

No way. Its difficult to put Frank Black and a want of commercialism together, Its just his dream to play with them again. He recently jammed with Joey, Dave and Kim, and with a new album on the pipeline, its not like they were paid to do this.

If they tour Europe, its likely that they'll come to Ireland. But if they don't, theres no way I'm missing out on this. The Pixies have revived, and this is a great day for indie rock.

I dunno... of course I'd be fecking delighted to see them live but "reunions" always bother me. I'm always afraid the reunited recordings won't live up to the high standards set in the original releases :/

Mind you, I'd bite your hand off for a ticket/copy of the album.

I think that we're all agreed on one thing. It doesn't matter why a reunion might happen, we want to see them together again.

the pixies reform for world tour and new album.
in other news Morrissey and Johnny Marr have made up.
Led Zeppelin have reformed with John Bonham's son on drums.
and thom yorke is not a squinty-eyed evil dwarf.

ps: none of the above are true

I heard that they have tour plans/album for early next year, April-ish.

Incidently Frank Black was in Tower records a couple of weeks ago. He's a bit of a fat-c*nt now, but still kicks sonic-ass.

WHEN. WHERE. HOW MUCH. DETAILS DETAILS DETAILS!!!!!!!!!!!! ooooh, my god. they are THE best band ever, and they's comin' back. the only thing that could be better would be a band with Jimi Hendrix on guitar, John bonham on drums, Janis Joplin lead vocals, and Phil Lynnot on bass. Now THAT concert would own. but anyway, they'd BETTER come here.

i have this class memory from witness a few years back, and just standing right in front of Frank Black, and it was class, really class.

well its been announced, the pixies are reuniting (old news) and are playing in ireland... thats the good part

the bad part is you gotta pay 60 euro and see them in a support role to the chili peppers in pheonix park where ya be surrounded by idiots!

    but still, its the pixies!

  • Registered Users Posts: 986 ✭✭✭wild_eyed

too dear its a ploy to to sell as many RHCP tics as possible, im gonna ring up the pixes tour manager and see if they'll play the newly refurbished town hall in dundalk, and , and, stuff.

i can't believe they're playing support to the chilis.

the chilis don't even deserve to play support to THEM!

Hot Press said they might be playing whatever the fupp witness is being called this year. And their website says they'll be touring around festivals. I'd much prefer to go to a day of witness than the gig in Phoenix park, even though I don't mind the Chili Peppers.
