Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This means that we`re gonna have to risk an un-gelled centre back combination against switzerland. It couldnt of come at a worse time.

    O`shea-O`brien
    O`shea-Dunne
    O`brien-Dunne

are about as far as our options stretch

I think they should give big Staunton one last callup as we need some experience in the squad if Breen is definitely out. I'm sure he'd do it for a favour.;)

Well I know he's a midfielder but not sure if he can play defence. I don't think Breen is a good defender but he does his job for Ireland. There could be plenty of players better then him individually but wouldn't be suited to a brand new pairing in the defence. The team is going to be very inexperienced and I can't see Ireland getting the win with our first choice cetre halfs out.

I don't wanna him to play. Shame he has to be injured to loose his place but sure it will be interesting to see who is picked.

Yeah, things like this should lift Ireland to play at a higher standard of football during the game. I've seen it happen with many other teams. Our cover is good enough to play anyway. I think it should be O'Brien and O'Shea.

It would have been if Cunningham was not banned but it can't be good news to have your two first choice centre halfs out.

I agree. It would interesting to see how O'Shea performs in the centre, hopefully he will start to put himself in the mix more too. I feel he isn't able to physically control/manage oppossing players like some of the best centre backs can. Savage player though.

So unless Dunn starts playing brilliantly for Man City we will probably have Finnan, O Brien, O Shea and Carr for the back four.

If we manage to get through then there is a positive side in that Kerr will be less likely to carry the Cunningham - Breen unit to the Finals.

Not wanting to jinx anything but of the more likely four there is no small amound of injury proneness among them.

A change can and will be a good thing i think. Breen really is a donkey sometimes. I hope Doherty doesnt start either, useless twat.

Dammit I forgot about Docherty. With Keane back and the other striker likely to be Clinton or Ant who knows where Docherty will end up - he was pushed back to defence towards the end of the Turkey game.

Best news i've heard in a while....the man is a talentless stick.......positive vibes are starting to surround this game......looking good for a win.

Lads, the swiss are nothing more than mediocre...if we can't beat them we don't deserve to qualify.....they only turned us over at home because of that very untalentdly gifted mongo manager we had.

    I think we'll win and i'll think we'll win comfortably. nuff said:o

i wouldn't be too positive about playing finnan out of position though.... and Harte won't be match fit

O'Shea and Doherty in the middle

and carr and finnan in the corners

That way if we need a goal we can throw Doherty up for the last 10 minutes without having to take someone off.

Finnan can use both feet better than most. I hope your right about Hartes fitness (I wish noting but health and hapiness for the guy .... after Switzerland)

Finnan was a regular on the left for a few seasons with Fulham.

BTW When Carragher got injured I sayed "I am absolutely delighted" and I got abuse by nearly everyone on the boards. Now Breen is injured and people are saying "this is the best news I have heard all day" and there has not been one bad comment made about these. I really think am getting discriminated against on these boards!

That's very big of you - I'm still deeply hurt by your slight towards Jamie.

I think peoples pleasure here is purely from the point of view that Ireland now won't have Breen in the team. Given that I don't think you saw Carraghers injury as a benifit to either Liverpools squad or of benifit to the opposition it was plain nasty on your part.

Ya it could be a blessin that he is out, Ireland will be stronger at the back, but his experience will be missed, JOS and Doherty at the back,

Apologies eireboy, I reread your post on the Carragher thread. Your happiness was borne out of the same reasons that are making people (including me) happy about Breens injury.

    Thanks for making me reflect...

breen injured is hardly a blow to things. i have always said o'brien and o'shea would be best possible irish partnership at the back. hopefully they will get a chance.

You will note I have not posted on this thread since my last. I didnt actually see anyone saying they are gald he was injured. I think its a terrible thing to say and would request that everyone would refrain from doing so in the furture...

As you you Eireboy, its time to grow up. A 17 year old fat chick has more self esteem than you. Get over it and post something constructive...... <says me who is posting crap>
