Esat BT offers broadband package for €50 a month

TELCO Esat BT has dropped the rate of its broadband services to €50 a month in a new offer for consumers.

The offer, which is available immediately, includes free installation, free use of a modem and free rental for the first month.

It also involves an 8 gigabyte data allowance per month.

Commenting on the latest offer, Bill Murphy, chief executive of Esat BT said: "In order to bring Ireland online, Esat BT has fought hard for a reduction in wholesale connection fees in a bid to drive broadband uptake in this country and push for a digital Ireland."

Esat BT's consumer broadband offering is called IOL Broadband, and is available for a monthly rental fee of €49.49.

According to the company, this gives consumers a 9pc saving over Eircom's broadband offering at €54.45. The monthly data allowance for IOL Broadband has increased to 8 gigabytes, which would allow consumers to download approximately 2,600 MP3 songs per month or watch 1,600 movie trailers per month.

I cannot believe they used the amount of mp3s as the measure of the cap.

Whats Netsource going to counter with ?

well its a bit better than previously but this cap thing should be binned. Its bad enough having to shell out €50 every month just for a 512k connection which is mediocre but on hop on that being restricted with a 8GB in total traffic... it kind of runs in the face of the whole idea of broadband.
