i just knew someone was gonna say that! yeah... maybe a little. the ultimate octave is nice tho twas kinda hard to get hold of.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I can imagine it was. I don't think I've ever seen it for sale anywhere or even a review of it.

i got it from musictoyz.com in the US with a load of other pedals. I managed to get the ds1 brand new for €20 from thier site thanks to some kind of error. actually for interesting effects and the like its a pretty good site. I would love the fulltone chorus/flanger pedal, all ive heard are good things.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I've heard really bad things about musictoyz.com Orders being "misplaced", emails not being replied to, money being taken from credit cards and no orders appearing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭mloc

well to be honest i ordered from them while they were moving premises, and that caused a little trouble. i did have to ring them once or twice to get it sorted, but the stuff eventually arrived. and the best thing was for some reason i wasnt charged VAT or duty on the import. brilliant!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Cool. Just having a look at the site now. What are the shipping costs like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭mloc

as far as i can remember they were reasonable, i ordered about 18 months ago. i ordered 4 pedals, it was about 40 dollars or so, but the ordered totalled around 420 so it wasnt taht much. the fulltone cost around 200 dollars, and they sent the other pedals first (e.g. in two deliveries = more expensive) because the fulltone wasnt in stock.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Hmm, definately some interesting stuff on that site. Not a great selection of guitars though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭mloc

nope tis mostly just effects and stuff. for more kinda boutique-y effects, try tonepilot.com. i dunno if that one delivers to ireland tho.

tis interesting to see most folks have more than one kind of instrument... there's a lot more people who play drums as a second or third instrument than I would have guessed...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 110 ✭✭The Smircher

I've just received an AKG WMS40GB from thomann.de

Very very nice piece of kit, can't wait to get on stage with it.

If you play with a band behind you or playing in a band, it's a huge benefit to be able to play, to some degree, all of the intsruments being used. Gives you a better feel for things...

Doc, I'm suprised by the number of would be drummers too...but having said that...they're so much bloody fun...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Aye, I'm one of them. I was playing drums in a band for about 6 months last year. Great fun but just got fed up, the bastids wouldn't give me a hand carrying gear onto and off stages... miserable lazy ******** ***** **** ******* ******* ********* ****** :D

Always be nice to your drummer and help them carry their stuff, that's what I learned ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 110 ✭✭The Smircher

I can fart around on most instruments, but I'd only claim to be able to play one really well. It's my baby and I've been playing this particular model for 16 years now. It's due a service fairly shortly though. There are better models out there, but y'know I'm become so accustomed to mine that I'd find it hard to change.

Waiting for this to be delivered - only €326

I still find myself playing drums, guitar, and singing. Play a little bass now and again, but nothing resembling talent! :D

Sometimes I think I want to drum, sometimes I think I want to be a singer, and sometimes I think I'd be best sticking to what I'm good at - guitar. The problem is that I don't know any like-minded individuals to back-up my guitar-playing, and so I always end up alternating between the three. Sad really. :(

    Bastids! :)

Is that VAT or customs and excise duty or both? Originate from US of A?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

It is €58.39 VAT, €9.92 duty and €9.50 Customs clearance fee. Still, less than €400 total for a G&L 5 string ;) Mustn't grumble.

Edit -> yeah, from the states, I went with US postal service instead of UPS or FedEx, much cheaper, but slower. Got it from www.topshelfmusic.com - the guy I was dealing with, Scott, even threw in a Fender hard case for free :D Sweet.
