150ms to UK servers, pretty stable, and free. Some freezes but not enough to make it unplayable, and this is on a wee regional POP so I'm impressed with it.

Yep, I was playing with it last night and found it not to bad at all. Again I had the odd freeze but not near as bad as I get off the wonderous tinet when they come. Maybe this will force the fee taking ISP's to sort there act out.

my suspicions are that they are routing everything through dublin, which is why its good for me, but thats just a wild guess smile.gif

Things get a bit messy on the 7th hop but seem to calm down a bit near the end. I find it terrible laggy at peak hours but fine after about 11pm onwards with pings in the range of 130~200 to BW servers. PL is minimal only for these quite frequent and anoying disconnections.

lag at peak times ? maybe cos its only a 1.5 mb pipe to UK :/

    like OMG!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,687 ✭✭✭tHE vAGGABOND

    remember
they have no members yet - pings 150 - 200

they will have lots of members - pings of lots

If noggy got 150 - 200 pings with some lag, and they prolly had like 5 members yesterday, in 2 months, 500,000 free CD's later they will be the worlds worst

its an free ISP, you should all read todays business section of the Times today, there are several big articles on the whole free ISP thing and TE generally being *****s

BTW any roomers out there on what that Ethan Doyle woman is gonna say in here report.......

well dell are rolling out their free ISP europewide so we'll have another one when that arrives. yeah no doubt oceannet will begin to crawl when numbers sign up, but then DNA may be nationwide, they're hoping to avoid having regional pops.
    DNA say :
Right now we would need a physical pop in each area. But there are
documents with the ODTR which may allow for the introduction of a
    non-geographic type 1891 number.

Emm anyone know what the ODTR is? smile.gif

  • Registered Users Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Spoonman

But oceanfree does give the best pings to the uk at non peak hours. I was playing on claranet with a ping of ~130ms the other night! My connection felt better than any Dublin isp dialing even the irish quake servers!
Its a shame about the bandwidth thing tho sad.gif

ODTR ( www.odtr.ie ) - Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation

They're the Irish telecoms regulatory people, a little like OFTEL in the UK.
