how do you **** a lily? and why bother with tinet when you can get free access with oceannet and in the near future, dell as well ? the real problem is with TE and metered access and the quaility of the service we receive.

well? you any idea of what you're actually doing? just move isp. and hecate wasn't even replying to your post, he was replying to slosh.

    on a relevant note:

UK users will get unmetered Net access within three months

BT to offer unmetered ADSL for £30/month

    that oceanfree thing is sh!te
connects you at anything from 9600 to 115200, granted 115200 is great but also oceanfree disconnects you after a certain length of time.
it's not steady connection at all.....

plus business with a PABX system can't use it....
no ability to access an outside line. it justs dials straight in...wont let u pick a number
to use or access outside line
    tisnt great
altho their email does support POP3, but thats about all its got going for it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 andykicksass

Look, this is crap. I sahouldn't have to move ISP. TINET should offer free phone calls @ off-peak times or maybe weekends if the want to keep up. Plus all free ISP's are crap. You will be disconnected to make room!
All people should sign this page....
thanx all. Except butcher. P.S: I was fooling with Hecate.
    Bye.

I tried oceanfree during peak hours and off peak hours and all i got was crap. Pings of 350 to 500 using a pace modem to Reapers Palace, but using indigo connecting to the same server I get 160 - 250 ping(at 28.8k). ICQ failed to load every time I connected with oceanfree.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,341 ✭✭✭Koopa

when you dial oceannet, do you have to pay the phone bill? if you do, then its not really 'free', because most of youre phone bill goes to the ISP through TE when you dial them.. its the ISP's real source of income.

free is like they have in america, free local calls.. unmetered access..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭KinDreD

haha yea koopa..who pays tinet there monthly fee anyway?..haha come on like

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,687 ✭✭✭tHE vAGGABOND

    koopa
they do that in the UK allright

but not over here, thats why the ISP dont wan the 1891 numbers, because it means it is not gonna happed either

ocean r gonna make their money from adds on their web page,

in reality it just promotes their name for thier business service, and thats what they will get out of it

yeah ads on their web pages, that will really rake in the £millons.ocean have something up their sleeve, they all do.Anyway ocean's connects are crap but not as bad as tinet local 6 months ago even if tis worse now.yeah right we're never gonna get free "everything" regarding flat rate charges and stuff.

TE's privatisation has to be feared, even though the market has been deregulated it will be a huge private co. with very little competition.really, trust me on this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 486 ✭✭acous

We (or someone) should really get some campaign going for flat rate internet/DSL in ireland, like they did (afaik) in the UK. boycott tinet/boycott internet...i duno just an idea cheeky.gif

Well, this is for unmetered access to TINET.
And this thread isn' for bickering guys.
just want some smart comments,ok. so at least I can go to tinet and say "there is growing support for this cause...",etc. All I want to do is put them under pressure....
They've already gotten ****ed and can't remove the site under THEIR terms.

Why would Tinet or any of the other ISP's want to provide free unmetered access ?
All that would happen if they did, is they would up the monthly charge to recover
the cost of providing the service.
The fact is these are businesses and they really aren't overly interested in providing
anything for free. I'm also pretty sure that the last thing either an ISP or Telecom
want is to encourage users to stay online for hour and hours at a time, holding lines,
bandwidth, and modems, it could only mean more busy lines.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 andykicksass

And Hellfire, I agree completly. So what if TINET upped the price to 20 quid. Would you still pay? I would I use the net a lot and it hurts. 20 quid a month would make up for it. remember, this is just for free access at off-peak times, Which would be great. Like screaming.net in the UK. A company will give you free off peak calls if you switch your lines to them. But the cheaper the internet is the more lines will be rented. God bless BLUETOOTH wireless comms.

well to honest andy i didnt even look at ur site, but the fact is that everywhere is getting flat rate calls, the phone companys are also businesses in america upping the monthly charges would still make it cheaper for ppl who spend to long on the internet.
the majority of ppl dont tie up the lines neway. gtg ill post later..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,601 ✭✭✭Kali

won't all this free access have to go through
    Telecom Eireanns lines anyway?
any company wishing to have free off-peak calls are going to have to incur huge line rentals ..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 andykicksass

I meant that screaming.net will give free off peak calls themselves. Not 'A COMPANY', it was a typing mistake.
