"Engineers at the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) have developed a prototype ultra high definition video (UHDV) system. How good is it? When it was shown to the public, some viewers experienced nausea because of the ultra realistic visual effect of speed without the usual physical sensation of movement. 18 minutes of UHDV takes up 3.5 terabytes."

Would'nt mind seeing some of this. To put it in perspective: Standard TV broadcasts are made up of 625 horizontal scanlines; HDTV (still not very common outside Japan) uses 1000 scanlines whilst UHDV has an incredible 4000 scanlines.

Be happy with HDTV for the moment. America has loads of HDTV content but as per usual us europeons have zip to zlich HDTV channels available.

I downloaded some HDTV Jay Leno samples and the quality is amazing. It has higher native rest than DVDs (720x576 or something like that) The samples were encoded at 1024x768 and that was downsample from somthing higher. Just wish there was some channels to support HDTV which would be a great excuse to get a HDTV. I am a quality monger :D

Ouch. that's 11-ish TB for an hour long show. They'd better come up with some method of decent compression for storage/transmission, or this is going to be a very expensive toy for quite some time.

    Cinemas.
Satelite feed for grabbing the movie file, onto a few hard drives, say €10,000 worth.

Can't think of many other commerical applications, aside from the usual.
