    Are Phoenix Park chestnuts edible?

    Picked about 12kgs of them yesterday, put a few of them in the oven as an experiment and they were very very bitter.

    pickle them in vinegar first to make them hard as rocks!!

    Edible chestuts come in seriously prickly pale green cases, that look almost furry they're so prickly.

    Inedible chestnust come in smooth green cases with occasional spikes - they look sort of like mines.

    Best bet - if you're desperate for them, buy some at the grocer...
