    here comes the blurb:

Polar preview their debut single release, before it enters the stores in November, with a visit to the hallowed Whelan’s stage on Tuesday the 21st of October. ‘Butterflies’ is the highly anticipated debut release proper from one of Dublin’s finest young bands.

Polar were conceived in June of 2001 while two of the member were sitting their Leaving Certificate exams. Just a year later in the summer of 2002 Polar released a promotional CD featuring 'South' and 'The Lonely Robot Song'. This taster received great acclaim and quickly became a favourite on various indie/alternative shows such as John Walshe's FM104 Rock Show and Alison Curtis' excellent Last Splash on Today FM. It was a huge success on Phantom FM (Dublin's most successful Pirate Station) and the listeners voted it as their 12th favourite song of 2002, ahead of songs by Irish artists such as Damien Rice and Gemma Hayes, and ahead of songs by international acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Polar's popularity has continued into 2003 when they recorded their first Fanning Session for 2FM and received huge airplay on kuci.org 88.9fm a college radio station broadcasting from Irvine, California.

The band are currently finishing the recording of their debut release proper 'Butterflies' which is due for a November release.

“One of the best debut singles to come my way recently is Dublin outfit Polar’s ‘South’, which mixes piano-balladry with guitar-driven rock to telling effect, as the band show a keen understanding of dynamics.”
-John Walshe, Sunday World (Metro Mag. 21/4/02)
