NTL internet box

On the NTL internet box(that thing u hook up to yur telly to go online), theres a little socket on the left hand side of it. theres nothing in the manual about it and i cant seem to find anything on the internet. if anyone can tell me anything about it, please do. i dont have one, and havent seen one, but im guessing some sort of uplink for techies to fix it if something goes wrong, or upgrade it. thats a guess though. my NTL digibox down stairs has a serial port on the back for upgrades. strangly enough, the one i got for my room dident come with one.
