    Hi,

Where i work we have an Nt machine which is rarely turned off, this morning the Cd-drive broke and the machine had to be restarted. 2 days before this the only person who knows the password was fired and the chances of getting the administrator password from his impossible.
So what i want to know is can i somehow get the machine running again without actually formatting the drive ??

    Easy:

    NTFS File System:

    Follow the link below:

    http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Download rawrite2 and the binary file from this site, at the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions on how to install the Linux image onto the floppy drive.

    rawrite2 -f bd??????.bin -d A:
    Replace ?????? with version number.

Boot off the floppy, follow the on-screen prompts and change the admin password or remove it completely.

    Alternatively: FAT

If you have FAT file system. Boot of a windows 98 boot-disk or something similar, when you get a DOS prompt go to:

    c:\winnt\system32\config

rename SAM to SAM.bak or whatever. Reboot and then log in with Administrator and no password.
