160 GB seen as 128GB?

    My BIOS recognises my new drive as a 160 GB drive. Windows 2000 Professional (SP4) does not. In the Computer Management Console, the drive is displayed as 128 GB unallocated disk?

    Any ideas?

    afaik win xp pro sp1 is the only o/s to provide support for hdd over 130gb

    Found out it just needed a registry tweak:
    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters]
    "EnableBigLba"=dword:00000001
    Save the above to a file called "add.reg" and double-clicking it should make the change.

    No, however, I'm seeing 149.05GB instead of 128GB of my 160GB HD?

    Does windows always lump off a bit of your drive?

    149GB is 160,000,000,000 bytes

    so 160Gb

    its something to do with bits and bytes

    yeah drive compenys have been screwing us for years lol

    Its actually to do with bios a limit on the lba and chs addressing systems
