Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello Folks,

can someone point me in the right direction. I would like to get my Parents fixed up with BBC Freeview. They live in Mullingar and all they have at present is an outside aerial (large at that) which picks up a poor reception for the UK channels.

I can pick a box up in Belfast (where I live) no problem. Is it straight forward to do for a man with no technical knowledge.

If not and your willing to make a few quid yourself email me - patrickshawe@yahoo.co.uk

    cheers.

    Hi pascall, welcome along,

If the reception of the UK terrestrial channels are already poor, I'm afraid there is no chance getting Freeview will make a difference.

Believe me, I've tried in North Meath. :(

A Satellite dish, and an old Sky Digibox will get the BBC channels for free, as an alternative.

    BTW, moved to Terrestrial.

Unfortunately if your current reception is of poor signal strength (v.snowy pictures) then your chances of receiving Freeview I'm afraid are virtual zero.:(

    Cheers Lads.

The reception has more snow on it then Alaska. I'll have to look into the Digi Dish and FTV card.

The BBCs will work even without a card. You'll need the card for ITV/C4/C5 though.

    Question:

My brother-in-law lives near Gorey in Wexford, he has a site fairly high up and I think you can see the sea from his roof - do you think he would pick up Freeview there, and would it be a normal sized aerial?

    Thanks,

    John.

Again, he would need strong analogue signal for Freeview to work. As he's in Gorey, I assume he gets signal from Presely or suchlike in Wales (the transmitter he is receiving his analogue signal from would need to be transmitting DTT also, as not all UK transmitters have been upgraded yet)?
