ALTO, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators, has criticised a new wholesale broadband service -- called Partial Private Circuits -- on offer from Eircom, claiming the product offers little or no savings over traditional leased lines. It took months of negotiation between the regulator ComReg, the incumbent Eircom and other telecoms to launch the product, which is designed to cut the cost of a leased line. ALTO has said that the new PPCs, which come with complex pricing, are in some cases more expensive than leased lines and said the industry has wasted its time trying over the last several months to bring the product to market.
