flash MX and flash fireworks

    Im trying to get into a bit of flash stuff for web design. I looked at the 'sticky' thread on related sites. What is Flash MX, is it a piece of software that is used to create flash components? and what is fireworks like, I have an older version of fireworks and was wondering if its any good?

    As someone with almost no experience of graphics packages I found Fireworks easy to learn and do basic stuff with.

    It also integrates easily with Dreamweaver and is useful for optimising images. A beginner's opinion for what it is worth.
