    Style? Federation?

I always found Irish national tournements to be unbalanced.

Looking forward to it. I've just had to pull out of sparring though as I've gotten some dental work done lately and I don't fancy anyones fist landing on my mouth, so it will be just patterns for me.

    If I had sparred
Heavyweight women (even though I'm only 5"1') green belt.

Weights will probably be in kg too. See inta.ie and the results from last february's tournament to get an idea of likely weight categories.

I'll probably go too - I'm in the under 65kg category (just about!) senior male 6th-4th KUP for sparring - might enter for patterns aswell

By the way BeelBooze I wouldn't get your hopes up about sparring afaik they don't let you spar in these competitions until you're at least green belt

    I am to be honest.

but as far as I know the competitions are run as follows for the lower grades: As soon as contact has been made the fight breaks up, the two combatants return to their respective corners, and the referee resumes the fight. There is no sparring in the full sense of the word. But we'll see.

You sound like a prat. I hope you get your ass handed to you on a plate by some 5'6" 145lb weasel.

And any tournament I ever went to(ITF, RITA) only allowed greens up to spar. Patterns and breaking for yellows and whites.

    .logic.

I sparred as a green tag in Dublin in February, now that I think about it.

    different set of rules maybe??

as Repli mentioned i thought you can't spar until green belt, i'm positive you can't spar as a 9th cup as it would make no sense to allow unskilled students to spar

Hold up a minute, i'm a RITA member and I just happen to be going to the "Nationals" in Carrick on Shannon on November 2nd. What Association/Federation are you with?

Logic1, I know I'm a prat, I'll be the first one to admit that any day. But it's way better than trying to convice yourself your cool all the time eh?

Its the IUTF nationals. I'll be there... green belt ladies, just sparring. Cant do patterns in competitions to save my life! First time doing continuous sparring in competition!

Well I've seen WTF sparring with 9th kup but ITF would tend to have less emphesis on this in tournaments early on (in my experience).

It really depends on the schools affiliation at a local/national level to be honest.

I've seen some terrible, terrible associations in Ireland and some tournaments are run badly with catagories merging if there is a lack of competitors and other such irresponsible practices.

In fairness Beëlzebooze, I hope your posts here are just macho posturing, if you were my student and I thought you approached the discipline in that matter I'd never allow you train, never mind compete.

Woops made a mistake there, it was on in Carrick on Suir, was good fun, my first tourni to enter :) How'd the other one go?

Only bad thing was the 3 hour trip getting there and getting up at 5.40 in the morning :p

I got that for this one... have to be up at 5.30am for this one... last year didnt get home till midnight. Am also being pestered by instructor to enter patterns:eek: For some reason my patterns section appears to be green tag-blue tag, which seems a bit weird...

So did anyone make it to the TKD National Championships in Glanmire, Cork then?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 495 ✭✭Beëlzebooze

it was a long day yesterday!

The patterns where very good, there where some competitors with EXCELENT style! A joy to watch! Some where sloppy, but they competed all the same, and I suppose that is what it is about.

There where a couple of team matches as well an Irish, two English, and an Italian team.

The sparring was a bit of a dissapointment, there where too many competitors, and the sparring didn't get underway untill about 1.30, and that meant that the matches where one 90 second round, whitch is a bit on the short side.

I got knocked out in the second round, but it was good fun all the same. I will definately be there next time.

Beëlzebooze, it sounds like you were at a different tournament to the one I was at. Where was yours held?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 495 ✭✭Beëlzebooze

    neptune stadium

That would explain that. I was at the INTA open in Glanmire. And a different society would explain why you were allowed spar as a yellow tag. I had to wait until green tag before I could spar.
