Sounds like Soda Glass - ie sodium leaching out - so what happens when it runs out ?

1 mA at 10V - this will run digital watch - ie low power microprocessor and LCD display.. - in the same power range as thermocouples but beats them on voltage...

But then again it has no moving parts.

BTW: Hot gases can also be ionised and you can get power from them - again in both cases the efficiency would be low
