I know that the post workers in the UK were on strike and only returned to work on Monday last. They expect it will take a couple of weeks to clear the backlog. This might explain the delay. BTW, I am following a similar route to you, original P1 registered in Manchester, used Glasgow address on the web site, the database didn't complain so let's see what happens.

Ok Sorry to ask stupid questions again but I could do with some info. I've tried reading through old threads but can't quite figure it out.

I want to get FTV card but I have never had one before I have a sky digital world package account. But we'r moving house shortly and we'r getting a new account setup with Sky+ box and a standard box with a mirror subsciption. Now I want to get FTV card, I have a couple of contacts in the UK.

What do I need to do and how much will it cost???

    Much appreciated

I think its time I did up a FAQ for the new FTV cards. Would that be ok with DMC? Could be a sticky?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 55 ✭✭dosfromclare

Good idea. There are some unscrupulous operators out there. Just got quoted nearly 600 euro for a box and FTA card. When I asked about the card only the quote was 250. This is from a $ky dealer ad in Buy & Sell.

Beware of the Buy and Sell.

The best option is use a friend or realation in the UK.

    Any timeplan on that FAQ??

One of my contacts is home this weekend and I was going to try getting it sorted asap.

    Thanks again

    Evenin' all,

I've bought myself a new Panasonic box from e-bay to replace my rather old Grundig one (will be gettin it next week). I also have an old NI sub P1 card that was replaced during the year and so has now expired - doesn't give ITV/C4/C5 but I use it occasionally to watch the extra BBC channels (easier than tuning them in).

    My questions so are this:

    1. Should I have a mate from up north ring and say he's bought this box from e-bay and he'd like a new FTV card to go with it please Can I then call Sky myself to have my own subs card married to the box or will they pick up on the serial number being used for both cards?

    2. Use the number on the P1 card to order one myself from the website - naturally tho I don't wanna do this if it'll cause a problem with my friend's sub.

    Appreciate any advice...
...sorry to be a pain :) but anyone have any ideas on this as like Irish1, I plan to try and get something sorted in the next week or two...thanks!

My Scottish friend still has not received my card, although the fee was debited to my Mastercard account by Channel 4 on 30 October. Does anyone know a telephone number through which one can report this to a person, instead of answering standard questions to a computer?

    Saw this on another forum
"I just phoned up 0870 054 1800 and told them I didn't have a card (I have an original light blue one). They took my order OK (I'm in the UK) but they told me I would have to call up to have the card activated after receipt and gave me a number 08700 500 744 to do this"

Maybe a FAQ on free2view.tv might be an idea!!!

There is still a delay in clearing the backlog of post after the Royal Mail strike.

I ordered a new card from Free2View on Friday 31 Otober and it still has not arrived at a London to date (11/11/03).

There is still a delay in clearing the backlog of post after the Royal Mail strike.

I managed eventually to get hold of an operator on their advertised telephone line. They sent the card to a non-existent address. The address seems to have got scrambled somewhere in their answering computer.

They promised to send me a new card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 273 ✭✭Mredmond

I've just come off the phone having managed to order 2 of these cards.( I think!?) It was not easy.

First, the operator challenged the postcode I gave, stating that it referred to Stirlingshire and not Cheshire as I said. Not being prepared for this, I had nothing to offer by way of argument except "yes it is" to his "no its not". He put me on hold to check, (at which point I considered hanging up) and when he came back he asked for my phone number. I asked him to hold, and I did hang up.

The I checked the Royal Mail online http://pol.royalmail.com/dda/af.asp
, very handy postcode DB, and confirmed that I WAS RIGHT!!
At this point I started to wonder if they have begun challenging Irish accents, to see if we panic and hang up.

Anyhoo, I rang back, adrenaline pumping, and got a different operator. Gave him the spiel, no problem immediately with the Postcode, but then he asked for my phone number. I told him I'd just moved here, I was using a neighbour's phone, didn't know the number, etc etc.
    No go, he said.
Is that standard procedure I asked? Yes he replied.
Can you send me a copy of the procedure in the post, I asked?
    It's not written, he said.

At this point I appealed directly to him, man-to-man so to speak. Just over from Ireland..no phone..know nobody..boo hoo hoo.
We'll skip the phone bit, he said.

When I confirmed my name and CC number (I did this at least 6 times during the course of the conversation) he asked me to confirm that I had rang earlier, and I agreed, but stated that I couldn't understand the scottish accent of the first op, which was true in any case.

Now at this point I had the gall to ask for two cards. He hummed and ha'd, and eventually agreed, before stating that he had found a record for me at this address as having a P1 card. (There's as much chance of finding of Lord Lucan had a card there !!)

Also, I could hear him having a side conversation with a scot I took to be the original operator, and it was fairly clear that they were trying to trip me up, repeatedly asking for my address, my card number, name etc.

Finally, through resignation rather than belief I think, he relented and said that 2 cards are in the post. Phew.

Apologies for the long post - in fact I've shortened the story quite a bit.

    Mred

Wow! They put you thru the mill there!
You dont need a phone number if you apply online.

Check your CC to see if the debited the money. Maybe they were having you on. Did you hide caller id?

I thought of that shortly after - they obviously knew the deal and were trying to catch me out, so maybe they won't bother sending the order through; how long should it take to hit my Visa?

I did hide the caller ID, which in itself is probably a giveaway.

    Thanks,

    MRed

    A query,,

I bought 2 FTV boxes on ebay and I haven't a clue where the cards are registered to. However I do have a relation in NornIRon. Can I order the new cards on the webpage and give his address??

Will they want to know from me the postcode of my old P1 cards??

Worst thing you could do. You will be rumbled straight away.

Ring your mate up north and get him to ring them up and request 2 new cards. Give him all the box details. If asked get him to say he bought them on ebay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,077 ✭✭✭parasite

what information should you have before you ring the number to request a new card (where you haven't had one previously) ? Also, I still have a couple of months left on my mandatory 12 months, i suppose a new card would knock that one out, as it were ?

The information that you need can be found on the System Details page (from memory I think it is Services -> System Setup -> System Details). Have all these details to hand (obviously you do not need the card number).

The new card will NOT knock out your existing card. A box can have many cards associated with it, but each card can only be associated with one box*.

    That bit about postcodes...

The Royal Mail setup post codes for their OWN use based on the nearest sorting office. In some cases this could be in the next county.

Considering the fuss over Welsh TV where the sorting office was in England I find it strange they'd argue so much.

Hmmm, got a contact in England to do the ringing for me today and he wasn't asked for any serial number etc, just address, postcode , home phone number etc.

I presume the card will self activate when I get it.

Does anyone know if a completly new FTV card can be matched to
an existing Irish out of contract box. I wohder do they have a DB
of bnox numbers. Will the box number give away the fact the box was sold in Ireland.?
Is it necessary to have a phone line connected in order to active one of the first time use FTV cards or are they self activating.?
    Thanks for any info

sorry missed this post first time round, there is no way a uk card will work in a sky box in the Irish republic,to recieve the uk channels ie. ITV, CHAN 4/5 the card has to come from a UK address

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 164 ✭✭speedbird1

Re " Brandy" posted on 13/11 in which he states he tried FTV card
in Irish box and it worked ok. (having first activated it in UK Box)
I would like to confirm this information. I understand first time FTV card has to be activated by phone from UK phone in order to
    avoid complications.
    Would appreciate clarifaction on this

    Thank You

    Hi,

Am getting mate in UK to activate FTV card on his digibox, and then to send over to put in my UK digibox here in Ireland, should this work ok? Are FTV married to digiboxes?

    Thanks

I have not heard of any problems similar to this before. Quite a few people here are using regular Irish subscription cards and FTV cards (sourced from the UK) in the one digibox without any problems.

Both FTV cards and ex UK subscription cards have been used without any trouble.

Sometimes, if the card has not been used for a while, ITV, Ch4 or five may not come through straight away, but usually leaving the card in the box overnight solves this problem.

Yes the cards are married once activated. But they will show ITV C4 and C5 in any box.

And they will also list the BBC channels on the EPG (101, 102, 115, 116, 507, 508, 618, 619) and as these channels are not encrypted they will also work.

Basically, once a FTV card has been activated in a box it will work properly on any other box.

well anybody with a uk delivery address (like me) could order extra cards for FTV BUT how would it work with payment ? your not going to send anybody your credit cards details or cash, and nobody is going to send you the card without payment

if you know another way let me know. I dont have a problem ordering them for anybody. there is, from what ive been told no restriction on how many cards you can order.

I just nead a little more clarification on this topic.I have received my FTV card but I have cancelled my Irish Sub since June 2003.I have moved house & will be moving to my new place after xmas.Do I need to activate my card before 31 December 2003 on another box?

I was thinking about becoming a new customer under my wifes name to get the benefit of the new Panasonic Box.I currently have the old Pace one.

So in a nutshell I need to know once the card has been activated on one box will it then work on an other one no problem?

I just rang the FTV number to order a new Free2view card as I've managed to get myself access to a UK address. It was all going swimingly until she asked me for my Sky Viewing Card number. I told her I wasn't at home and asked why she needed it and she said they would have to cancel my Sky subscription before they would issue me a Free2View card. What's the story with this? Did I do something wrong?

a little help would be nice on this one. Thanks

Well as far as I am aware, the online version is only for to replace an existing p1 card.

So if you want an entirely new card you will have to phone the number and press 3
