Difference between Dvd + Dvd - formats?

Can someone tell me whats the difference in these. Some dvd Rewriters only do 1 of these formats and some seem to do both. What would i be missing out on if i were to get 1 of the single format ones.

Looks like Pioneer and LG are the way to go. And that the minus standard (DVD-R, DVD-RW) is more mature and better compatibile with the standalone players. No big surprise there, as it's been on the market longer.
