How many companies reselling eircom ADSL?

I thought there were only 4 players in the market. UTV/esat/eircom/netsource. But I was talking to someone else today, who seemed to think there were some other players in the market. Gotten a better quote from them, than all the rest.

    It sounds a bit strange.

Are there any other companies in the Irish market reselling eircoms ADSL?

There's a couple/few reselling Netsource's (resold) products. Don't know of any other direct resellers.

I think it is funny how there are only 3 resellers of eircom, where as in the uk there are dozens.

Four. Strictly speaking, Eircom net is a reseller too. And it's not funny at all, it's simply a stark reminder that the wholesale prices and restrictive terms and conditions have made it impossible for small players to get on the field.

Does anyone know if there is really such a thing as "eircom.net", or is it just a retail arm of Eircom? Who pays for all those radio ads? Who paid for the front page of the 2004 phonebook?

Is there supposed to be a "chinese wall" between the two parts of eircom, or is that just some foreign notion used in other countries to provide something like a competitive environment?

Is eircom actually legally required to set it's wholesale price for broadband products without reference to "eircom retail"?

It's not really Eircom and Eircom Net, it's Eircom wholesale and Eircom retail. Eircom Net is a separate division, but it can be thought of as part of Eircom retail -- all different names and different companies though. And there are more divisions, such as the one set up to own and operate the exchanges.

Yes, there is supposed to be a Chinese wall between Eircom wholesale and Eircom retail, but it doesn't work like that in practice and although the regulators puff out their chests and act hard when it comes to infractions, they know damn well that it happens all the time and they turn a blind eye to it because a full and frank investigation would turn up trouble for everybody.

Yes, Eircom wholesale is supposed to treat Eircom Net like any other ISP; and yes, it's a legal requriement. Obviously it doesn't respect this legal requirement though.
